This is an editorial selection—not a measured fan ranking—based on story impact, surprise, championship stakes and event reach.
What happened when Cody Rhodes finished the story at WrestleMania XL?
Rhodes’ victory over Roman Reigns on WrestleMania XL’s second night was the year’s clearest long-running story payoff. After winning the 2024 Royal Rumble, Rhodes earned another path to Reigns and the championship he had pursued. Their Night 2 main event ended with Rhodes winning the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. WWE’s WrestleMania results record the result.
The two-night event’s first night set the stakes for the rematch: The Rock and Reigns defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins, establishing Bloodline Rules for the title match on Night 2. That stipulation tied the main event to the broader Bloodline story rather than making it a straightforward singles rematch.
WrestleMania XL’s reported scale
WWE’s April 9, 2024 corporate release described WrestleMania XL as the company’s most successful and highest-grossing event at that time. WWE reported 145,298 attendees across the two nights, viewership up 41 percent compared with the previous year, merchandise sales more than 20 percent above the prior WrestleMania record, and more than 660 million social views over two days. These are figures reported by WWE, not independent measurements. WWE’s release provides the figures and their context.

Bayley won the women’s Royal Rumble after entering at No. 3 and lasting 1:03:03, a duration reported by WWE. The victory earned her a WrestleMania title opportunity, which she used to defeat IYO SKY and win the WWE Women’s Championship at WrestleMania XL. Her run from Rumble winner to champion gave the women’s division a major story payoff of its own. WWE’s Royal Rumble results and WrestleMania results document the matches.

He named the 2025 Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania 41 among the events in his final run. WWE’s Money in the Bank coverage details the announcement. Why did CM Punk and Drew McIntyre’s feud define so much of the year?
The rivalry kept intruding on major matches and then changing hands. Punk’s interference disrupted McIntyre’s WrestleMania title win and his Money in the Bank cash-in. McIntyre beat Punk at SummerSlam; Punk answered with a win in their Strap Match at Bash in Berlin. At Bad Blood, Punk defeated McIntyre in Hell in a Cell, closing the trilogy according to WWE’s recap.
The progression made the final match matter beyond its stipulation: each man had already cost the other opportunities, and the feud had survived several reversals. WWE’s SummerSlam results and Bad Blood results cover the major endpoints.

How did Roman Reigns’ return change the Bloodline story?
Reigns returned at SummerSlam after losing to Rhodes at WrestleMania, interrupting Solo Sikoa’s attempt to take control of the Bloodline. He cost Sikoa a championship opportunity against Rhodes, reopening the question of who led the group. Sikoa had positioned himself as the leader in Reigns’ absence, so the return turned the story from Rhodes’ title reign back toward an internal power struggle.
At Crown Jewel, Sikoa pinned Reigns in a Bloodline match. Sami Zayn’s accidental Helluva Kick against Reigns added another fracture to an uneasy reunion. WWE’s SummerSlam results and Crown Jewel results document those turns.

What made Crown Jewel’s first champions significant?
Crown Jewel introduced a separate accolade from WWE’s regular championships. Cody Rhodes defeated World Heavyweight Champion Gunther, while Liv Morgan defeated WWE Women’s Champion Nia Jax; Rhodes and Morgan became the first men’s and women’s Crown Jewel Champions. These Crown Jewel titles did not replace the champions’ regular WWE titles. The new distinction gave the late-year event a milestone even as the Bloodline story continued alongside it. WWE’s Crown Jewel results list the matches and outcomes.
