They are parody election decor built around Wu-Tang fandom and a message of shared identity amid political disagreement. Reports of their return in 2024 describe sightings in several U.S. locations, not a measured national sales trend.
What the Wu-Tang political signs mean
The signs borrow the look of a candidate yard sign and replace a campaign message with “Presidents Are Temporary — Wu-Tang Is Forever.” The joke is the point: they signal music fandom while declining to take a side in the election.
The idea dates to the 2020 presidential campaign, when Staten Island fan Rafael Medina created the design. He said he intended it to remind people that, regardless of how they voted, they remained Americans and, especially, Staten Islanders: “We should have each other’s back and maybe even have a laugh together.”
Doc Spartan co-owner Dale King later saw a meme of the sign and worked with a graphic designer and local print shop to produce an initial batch of about 50 in 2020. King called the sign a “tongue-in-cheek approach” to stating an “official political stance.” The signs went into storage after that election and were brought back for 2024. NPR’s 2024 report and The Washington Post’s coverage describe the origin and revival.

Why the signs returned in 2024
King described the sign as a response to the hostility of election season, saying, “There’s so much vitriol and polarity going on.” Jacksonville resident Blake Wing made a similar point: “Just because we disagree doesn’t mean we need to fight and yell about it and act stupid.” The sign’s political appearance sets up a noncandidate message: humor and shared musical enthusiasm can coexist with disagreement.
Reports placed the signs in eastern Pennsylvania, Lexington, Kentucky, North Carolina, Salt Lake City, and Jacksonville. Those sightings show a geographic spread, but the coverage is anecdotal; there is no verified national sales total or survey establishing how widespread the comeback was.
Parody yard sign vs. official NYC street sign
The election parody is separate from an official Wu-Tang Clan District street-sign release announced by the New York City Department of Transportation on November 7, 2024. The city described a limited batch of 100 street-sign-style collectibles, with proceeds designated for New York City’s general fund. NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez said the group’s music was influential in hip-hop history and gave voice to its New York City roots. The two products share Wu-Tang imagery and a slogan, but they have different issuers and purposes.
| Feature | Parody election lawn sign | Official NYC DOT collectible |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Humorous, noncandidate election decor. | Civic collectible commemorating the Wu-Tang Clan District. |
| Issuer | Independent retailer Doc Spartan; the design originated with fan Rafael Medina. | New York City Department of Transportation. |
| Format | Two-by-three-foot lawn sign, as described in 2024 reporting. | Street-sign style: 50 authentic green signs and 50 custom black-and-yellow signs. |
| Documented price | About $30 per sign, the price Doc Spartan reported in 2024. | $75 per sign in the 2024 CityStore release. |
| Availability evidence | Retail sightings and listings were reported; current stock is not established. | A limited release of 100 signs, offered through CityStore in 2024; current availability is not established. |
For the official release details, see the NYC DOT announcement. The department said it produces more than 70,000 street signs annually; that figure describes the department’s annual production, not the number of Wu-Tang collectibles.

Where to look for a sign
Doc Spartan sold the parody signs, and 2024 reporting put the price at about $30 for the two-by-three-foot version. Because the large sign did not fit standard mailers, the company also added stickers and T-shirts after customers asked for apparel. These are historical details, not a guarantee of current inventory or prices. Check the retailer’s live listing before buying; the 2024 report does not establish present stock.
The official street-sign collectible was sold through New York City’s CityStore, with orders limited to one per customer during the 2024 release. That limited drop should not be confused with the independently sold lawn sign, and the announcement does not establish whether CityStore still has any available.

Are the signs authorized by Wu-Tang Clan?
The available 2024 reporting does not establish that the parody yard signs were authorized by Wu-Tang Clan or its members. Representatives did not respond to requests for comment in the report. The NYC DOT street-sign release, by contrast, was a municipal collectible announced by the city; that does not make it the same product as Doc Spartan’s parody campaign sign.
