The examples below are reported associations, not complete or current inventories.
What watches do guitarists wear?
There is no single “guitarist’s watch.” A 2022 feature by specialist publication Time+Tide connects several celebrated players with watches that reflect sharply different tastes: robust sports watches, colorful or unconventional designs, vintage chronographs and digital curiosities. Its examples are useful snapshots, but they do not establish who owns each watch today or the full extent of anyone’s collection.

The first four rows draw on Time+Tide’s 5 September 2022 feature, which reports sightings and associations. Read the examples in that light: a watch seen on stage, a model attributed to a musician, and a documented former auction holding are different kinds of evidence.
Slash: stage-ready sports watches
Time+Tide associates Slash with three high-profile models: a green Rolex Submariner nicknamed the “Hulk,” a Breitling Chronomat Evolution fitted with a UTC module, and a Hublot Big Bang. It describes the green Submariner as a frequent stage sighting. That supports calling it a recurring public association, not asserting that he currently owns it or wears it at every performance.

Keith Richards: gold, digital and band-linked watches
Richards’s reported selection is more eclectic than a single recognizable sports model. Time+Tide connects him with a solid-gold Pulsar LED from the 1970s, an IWC Portugieser chronograph and, especially, a gold Cartier Panthère. The combination spans an early digital display, a traditional chronograph and a conspicuously jewelry-like design.
The Rolling Stones also had limited-edition Zenith El Primero and Pilot Type watches created. Those are band-linked models; their existence should not be confused with evidence that Richards personally owned either watch.

Dave Navarro: a broad Rolex and luxury-watch mix
Time+Tide reports Navarro with Rolex Submariners, an all-gold Day-Date, a Batman GMT-Master II, a gold Omega Speedmaster and a Patek Philippe Nautilus. The feature calls his white-dial Daytona a favorite. This is a publication’s account of his watch associations, not a verified, complete list of possessions or a statement about what remains in his collection.
Mark Knopfler: Speedmasters and vintage pieces
Time+Tide describes Omega as a particular passion for Knopfler, citing Speedmasters that include vintage Speedmaster Professionals and a gold ’57 reissue. It also associates him with a Heuer Autavia “Jo Siffert” and vintage military-specification watches. These examples point to an interest in chronographs and older, purpose-built designs without defining the extent of his collection.

Eric Clapton: when auction records strengthen the story
Clapton’s watch associations have more specific provenance where auction houses or named publications identify individual pieces. Phillips’s June 2026 auction preview describes a Patek Philippe Ref. 5004G-020 as formerly part of Clapton’s personal collection. Phillips gives an estimate for that auction lot; an estimate is not a sale result, so it should not be presented as the watch’s realized price.
A different watch, Clapton’s platinum Patek Philippe Ref. 2499, sold at Christie’s in 2012 for $3.6 million, according to British GQ’s 10 January 2020 account. GQ describes the reference as one of two platinum examples. That historical auction result documents a former holding; it says nothing by itself about Clapton’s present collection.

British GQ also lists Rolex Submariner, Day-Date, GMT-Master II and Milgauss models he had been seen wearing. A reported sighting is not equivalent to auction provenance or confirmation of current ownership, so these Rolex references belong in a separate evidentiary category from the named former Patek Philippe holdings.

Celebrity-watch lists often blur a photograph, a publication’s attribution and a confirmed former ownership record. The distinction matters especially when an article is used to answer “what watch does Slash wear?” or “what watches are in Eric Clapton’s collection?” A precise answer should identify both the watch and the strength of the evidence.

- A stage or public sighting: establishes that a watch was seen being worn, not that it is still worn or personally owned.
- A named publication’s association: supports reporting that the publication connected a musician with a model, while leaving the completeness and current status of the collection unsettled.
- A band-linked limited edition: documents an association with a group or project, not necessarily an individual member’s ownership.
- A specific auction provenance statement: can establish that a named watch was formerly in a person’s collection. An auction estimate and an achieved price are different facts.
For additional context on musician collectors, Top Gear’s 30 June 2023 overview discusses Clapton, John Mayer and Ed Sheeran. It is a broad secondary overview rather than a substitute for primary interviews or item-by-item ownership records.
