Engine is server software; its license is separate from the compute and outbound network-transfer charges of the server host. Estimate the feed’s monthly traffic from its bitrate and runtime, then apply the hosting provider’s current egress tariff for the server’s region. The result depends on those choices, plus any redundancy or extra outputs.
What you pay for with Wowza Streaming Engine
Wowza Streaming Engine can run on-premises, in a private cloud, or on public cloud infrastructure. Its software price is not an all-in hosting or bandwidth quote. Keep these cost categories separate when estimating a continuous YouTube feed:
- Engine license: Wowza’s pricing page lists Basic Monthly at $195 per month, including one instance. A one-month license is listed at $295 one-time. Additional Basic Monthly instances are listed at $195 per month, and additional transcoded channels at $25 per channel. These are published license amounts, not compute or egress charges. The pricing page describes up to 10 concurrent transcoded channels in the included instance; additional channel and instance usage can affect the license total. Wowza Streaming Engine pricing.
- Compute and storage: The amount depends on the server size, deployment type, and region. Wowza’s product overview and technical specifications describe deployment flexibility, but do not establish one universal hosting price.
- Outbound network transfer: The Engine server sends the encoded feed to YouTube. Price the estimated traffic against the infrastructure provider’s current egress rules and the region where the server runs. Engine materials do not specify a provider-independent bandwidth rate.
- Optional capacity and resilience: Extra instances, transcoded channels, backup feeds, or additional destinations may add license, compute, or network costs. Check the published licensing rules against the actual design.
Estimate the traffic for a 24/7 feed
For a constant-bitrate stream, estimate decimal gigabytes with:
Traffic in decimal GB ≈ bitrate in Mbps × streaming seconds ÷ 8,000

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For a continuous 30-day month, use 2,592,000 seconds. The following are arithmetic estimates before transport overhead, not measured traffic or quoted bills:
| Feed bitrate | Approximate traffic over 30 days |
|---|---|
| 6 Mbps | 1,944 GB (1.94 decimal TB) |
| 8 Mbps | 2,592 GB (2.59 decimal TB) |
| 17 Mbps | 5,508 GB (5.51 decimal TB) |
Use the bitrate actually sent by your encoder and your real operating hours. Allow for protocol overhead, reconnects, and any additional outputs. Providers may define or bill GB and TB differently, so check the provider’s units and network-billing policy before translating volume into cost.

Choose the bitrate that matches the YouTube ingest settings
YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations list 8 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps, 8 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. YouTube also recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. These settings affect the volume estimate: enter the selected feed bitrate into the formula rather than assuming all resolutions use the same bandwidth. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance and its instructions for encrypting a stream using RTMPS.
YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into different output formats for viewers. For a basic single-feed setup, the number of viewers therefore does not directly multiply the Engine server’s outbound ingest-feed volume. The estimate above is for that one feed, not for separate distribution, backup paths, or other outputs.

Does Wowza charge for bandwidth?
It depends what “Wowza” refers to. For Streaming Engine, distinguish the software license from network transfer billed by the infrastructure provider hosting the Engine server. For a hosted Wowza Video service, use that service’s separate pricing rules. Wowza’s Wowza Video guide describes 24×7 subscriptions with a flat fee per stream and bandwidth and egress charged by gigabyte; that is not a Streaming Engine bandwidth tariff.
Build a realistic monthly estimate
- Set the feed bitrate and schedule. Use the actual encoder bitrate and the number of hours streamed. For a truly continuous month, use 2,592,000 seconds for a 30-day estimate.
- Calculate the feed volume. Apply the formula above, then add a reasonable allowance for overhead, reconnects, and any additional feeds.
- Identify where Engine will run. Specify on-premises or the chosen cloud provider, region, and server size. Compute and storage are separate from network egress.
- Check the applicable egress tariff. Use the provider’s current regional policy and confirm its unit definitions, included transfer allowances, and billing rules.
- Add the Engine license and design-specific costs. Account for the applicable license, instance and transcoding-channel use, plus any redundancy or extra destinations.
Without a named host, region, bitrate, and billing setup, a single monthly bandwidth-cost figure would be misleading. The 6 Mbps example gives a traffic quantity, not an egress bill.
