Apple TV’s Mexican crime drama Women in Blue (Las Azules) returned for season two on 12 August 2026. Early reviews were encouraging, but the sample was small: Rotten Tomatoes displayed three season-two critic reviews when accessed, and one included a clear reservation. The series is inspired by true events; its drama is not a documentary account.
What is Women in Blue about?
The series follows four women who join Mexico’s first female police force. Season one takes place in the 1970s, when the officers discover that their unit was created as a publicity maneuver to distract attention from a serial killer targeting women. Apple describes the show as inspired by true events, so its premise should not be taken as a claim that every character or plot event is historical. Apple TV’s series listing identifies it as a Mexican Spanish-language crime drama.
In season two, María has been promoted to lieutenant. The murder of a student activist draws the Azules into an investigation linked to the 1968 student massacre. The new story puts police rules in conflict with the pursuit of truth in a corrupt system, connecting the series’ fictional investigation to a major historical event without making the show a documentary. Apple’s season-two announcement outlines the premise and release schedule.
What are critics saying about season two?
The early reaction shown on Rotten Tomatoes was favorable overall, but three displayed reviews are too small a sample to establish a broad or settled consensus. The excerpts also show that critics did not agree without qualification:

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- ScreenAnarchy critic Peter Martin gave the season 4/5 in a review dated 12 August 2026, calling it more assured in tone and “more relevant today, far beyond Mexico’s borders.”
- Espinof critic Belén Prieto wrote on 14 August 2026, “It’s a triumphant return for a fantastic series.” The full review is in Spanish.
- The Age critic Jared Richards gave it 3/5 on 18 August 2026, describing it as “heavy-handed at times” while praising its tense connection between Mexico’s past and the global present.
These are short excerpts displayed by Rotten Tomatoes, which links to the original reviews. They suggest an engaging, topical return for some critics, alongside a concern about heavy-handedness—not unanimous acclaim.
When did season two come out?
Apple announced that season two would begin on 12 August 2026, with episodes released weekly through 30 September 2026. That announced release window has passed. The series first premiered in 2024; the 2026 season is its second, not a new series debut.
