A viral TikTok reported by Futurism showed a surprising contrast under nightclub blacklight: the woman’s natural teeth appeared bright, while two upper lateral-incisor implants looked dull purple. The report corrected an earlier account that said the implants glowed. The likely explanation is that natural teeth and dental restoration materials can fluoresce differently—but the report does not identify the material of her visible restorations.
What happened under the nightclub blacklight?
In a February 22, 2024 report, Futurism correspondent Sharon Adarlo described a TikTok by Krys Tha Sis. Under blacklight, her natural teeth appeared to fluoresce, while the two upper lateral-incisor implants appeared dull purple. The report explicitly corrected an earlier New York Post account: the implants themselves did not glow.
As quoted in the Futurism report, Krys said, “The implants actually do not glow in the black light,” and, “I only have two implants total.” These statements and the description of the video are reported accounts; they are not an independent examination of her teeth or dental work.
Why can natural teeth look different from restorations?
Blacklight supplies ultraviolet-rich illumination. Fluorescence occurs when a substance absorbs higher-energy light and emits light in response. Natural teeth fluoresce, with fluorescence generally more intense in dentin than in enamel, according to a 2018 literature review in the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry.

Dental resins and ceramics can also fluoresce, but their optical behavior varies with composition and may not match natural teeth. A study of dental porcelain likewise reported differences among ceramics and found that cement can affect a ceramic prosthesis’s fluorescence. Factors such as aging, temperature and bleaching may also influence fluorescence, as discussed in the review.
Does this mean dental implants do not glow under blacklight?
No. “Implant” does not tell you enough about the visible surface to predict its appearance: an implant is not necessarily the same thing as the restoration seen above the gum. Futurism identifies Krys’s dental work as implants but does not state what material was used for the visible restorations. It would be speculation to assign a particular crown or ceramic to her case.

Restorative materials can be designed to fluoresce, and their behavior varies. The viral example shows a reported mismatch in one person’s smile, not a universal trait of implants or crowns.

The reviewed sources do not establish how often dental restorations look different from natural teeth under club blacklights. This is one reported viral anecdote, not evidence of a prevalence rate. The appearance can depend on the specific materials and the lighting, so the story does not support a general prediction about how any other person’s dental work will look.
