William Daniels says he still hears how much audiences respect George Feeny, the teacher and mentor he played on Boy Meets World. In an interview with People earlier in 2025, Daniels pointed to fan encounters at conventions and Cameo requests—and said he hopes to use Feeny’s authority to help protect young people.
What William Daniels said about Mr. Feeny’s impact
“I’m very aware of the respect people have for my character, George Feeny. I hear it at conventions, in Cameo requests,” Daniels told People. “So I hope to use that authority as a teacher and mentor to help protect young people.”

Daniels described the recognition he encounters and the purpose he hopes to draw from it. His remarks are a personal observation, not a measure of how many viewers were influenced by the character.
Why Feeny was more than a school authority figure
On Boy Meets World, Feeny was a teacher to the young characters and also a mentor in their lives. That combination is central to the lasting connection Daniels describes: audiences continue to approach him about a character whose role extended beyond the classroom.

Daniels has also explained why he wanted Feeny portrayed with respect. In an ABC News interview, he recalled worrying that the teacher might be written as foolish. “I respect teaching, and they’re underpaid,” he said, adding that producer Michael Jacobs assured him the character would not be made fun of and was based on a teacher Jacobs had respected. Daniels said, “he kept his word.”
How long Daniels played Feeny
Daniels played Mr. Feeny from 1993 to 2000, the years ABC News gives for his role. Boy Meets World ran for seven seasons and ended in 2000. A Television Academy archive also preserves a 2017 interview with Daniels that includes discussion of how he was cast, his relationship with the students, the show’s longevity and its finale.

What the audience response meant to Daniels
In a separate retrospective reflection reported by Biography.com, Daniels described the continued response to the series as a pleasant surprise: “It’s been a pleasant surprise for me, that the show has had such kind repercussions with people that they still talk about it.” The comment offers another view of his reaction to the show’s endurance; it is distinct from his 2025 remarks about using Feeny’s authority to help young people.
