Sony Pictures Japan’s reported wording sparked speculation that Tom Hardy’s Venom could appear in the fourth Tom Holland Spider-Man film, but it did not confirm his casting. The film is now officially titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the available official material does not name Venom or Eddie Brock.
What Sony’s reported hint said
On November 21, 2024, BGR reported that a Sony Pictures Japan press release asked: “Is Tom Hardy, who plays Eddie in the ‘Venom’ series, ready to take part?” BGR said the quoted press-release wording was machine-translated, so it should be treated as a suggestive question—not as a formal Sony announcement.
BGR also attributed two remarks to Hardy in the same release: “Tom Holland is the best Spider-Man,” and “I would like to work with him. If someone needs me, I’d be happy to participate.” Those reported comments express interest in working with Holland, but they are not a casting notice or confirmation that Hardy will appear in the film. Read BGR’s report.
What is officially known about Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
Sony’s current official title for the fourth film featuring Tom Holland as Spider-Man is Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Sony’s official page provides a synopsis but does not name Venom or Eddie Brock. That omission means the official page does not establish a Venom role; it also cannot rule out a cameo or an appearance that has not been announced. See Sony’s official film page.

What later comments from Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige add
In a July 29, 2026 interview account, ComicBook.com reported that producer Amy Pascal said of a possible crossover, “It would be great, let’s put it that way.” Kevin Feige followed with “Always have hope,” then joked and concluded, “We have no hope.” The exchange is equivocal: Pascal voiced enthusiasm, while Feige’s remarks did not confirm a role. ComicBook.com also reported no indication that Brand New Day would address the symbiote remnant left in the MCU. Read the interview account.
Does Venom: The Last Dance rule out a return?
Sony describes Venom: The Last Dance as the final film in Tom Hardy’s Venom trilogy. That wording establishes the trilogy’s endpoint, not the end of every possible appearance by the character in another franchise. It neither confirms nor excludes a future crossover. See Sony’s official Venom: The Last Dance page.

Why Sony’s Spider-Man partnership with Marvel does not settle this
Sony’s 2015 collaboration announcement said Sony retained financing, distribution, ownership and final creative control of Spider-Man films, while Sony and Marvel were exploring ways to integrate MCU characters into future Spider-Man films. That historical agreement explains why crossovers have been possible to discuss, but it does not establish the current status of any particular character or confirm Hardy’s involvement in Brand New Day. Read Sony’s 2015 announcement.

The evidence supports calling the Sony Pictures Japan wording a hint that prompted speculation—not confirmation that Venom will return to the MCU in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Hardy’s reported comments, the later producer exchange and Sony’s official film pages do not announce his casting or a Venom appearance.
