The cited reports establish neither a pardon nor a denial. They also describe some survivors discussing a draft letter opposing clemency—not a letter confirmed as sent.
What is the latest on a possible Trump pardon for Combs?
The latest cited status update is CBS’s report of July 3, 2026: Trump was still discussing possible clemency for Combs, while a source told CBS that Combs was not expected on the pardon team’s recommendations list. That is a report about deliberations and a source’s account, not a final decision. CBS’s July 3 report and The Independent’s report that day describe consideration, not a grant or denial.

The chronology matters because the accounts refer to different stages and come from different speakers:
| Date | What was reported | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| August 1, 2025 | Rolling Stone reported that Combs allies were pursuing a pardon and that some survivors were discussing a draft letter urging Trump not to grant one. | The letter was described as a draft under discussion, not as delivered. Rolling Stone |
| August 5, 2025 | Combs attorney Nicole Westmoreland said she understood the defense had reached out and held conversations about a pardon. A White House official declined to say whether a clemency request existed. | An attorney’s account of contact; not confirmation from the White House. CNN |
| October 6, 2025 | Trump said publicly that Combs had asked him for a pardon. | Trump’s statement that a request had been made; not an announcement that he would grant it. ABC News |
| July 3, 2026 | CBS reported continuing discussion of possible clemency and said a source did not expect Combs to appear on the pardon team’s recommendations list. | A later status account attributed in part to a source; still no reported final outcome. CBS |
Did Combs’s lawyers speak with the Trump administration?
The public accounts differ. In a CNN interview on August 5, 2025, attorney Nicole Westmoreland said, “Yes. We’ve — it’s my understanding that we’ve reached out and had conversations in reference to a pardon.” Lead attorney Marc Agnifilo separately told CBS he had not spoken with the administration about a pardon. The available reporting does not reconcile the statements, so neither should be treated as a definitive account of all contacts by the defense.

- From music mogul to controversy, Sean Combs' life is full of highs and lows, but the central mystery remains: What did Diddy do?
Trump later said Combs had asked him for a pardon, according to ABC News’s October 6, 2025 report. That statement does not establish who made the request, what form it took, or whether Trump intended to act on it.
What did the survivors’ draft letter say?
Rolling Stone reported on August 1, 2025, that it had reviewed a draft letter some survivors were discussing. The draft urged Trump not to grant clemency and argued that a pardon “would not be justice” and would send a devastating message to survivors. The account concerns the people involved in those discussions and the draft’s position; it does not establish that every survivor agreed.
Rolling Stone also reported that three people familiar with the matter described offers to pay political operatives and lobbyists as part of the pardon effort. Those are reported allegations, not independently established facts in the cited coverage. One unnamed source who testified at Combs’s trial told the magazine, “The only reason he’s coming to Trump now is because he’s desperate.” The source was not identified by name in the report.
Rank #2
The cited reporting does not confirm that the draft letter was sent or say what response, if any, it received.
What is Combs serving a sentence for?
CBS’s July 3, 2026 report described Combs as serving a sentence of just over four years after conviction on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The report also said he was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. These case outcomes provide context for the clemency discussion; they do not determine whether a president will grant a pardon.
Quick Recap

- Reported: Allies pursued a pardon, some survivors discussed a draft opposing it, and Trump said Combs had asked him for a pardon.
- Unresolved: The cited reports do not establish a final grant or denial, confirm that the survivors’ draft was delivered, or resolve the attorneys’ differing accounts of contact with the administration.
- Latest cited status: CBS reported continuing discussion on July 3, 2026, alongside a source’s view that Combs was not expected on the pardon team’s recommendations list.
