HBO renewed IT: Welcome to Derry for Season 2 on August 17, 2026. The next season is set in 1935 and will center on the Bradley Gang massacre. In the August 2026 reports available here, HBO had not announced a premiere date or Season 2 cast.
What will Season 2 be about?
The second season moves the story back to 1935, during the Great Depression, and centers on the Bradley Gang massacre, a chapter in Derry’s history drawn from Stephen King’s It. According to Variety’s renewal report, the official logline describes bank robbers stopping in Derry to buy ammunition before encountering horror.
Andy Muschietti said the period will shape more than the backdrop. In an interview with Variety, he said the characters would be marked by “Depression-era hustling” as they try to survive, and that the era’s social and cultural realities would be “the very center and the heart of our story.”
What have the creators said about Season 2?
Before HBO formally renewed the series, Andy Muschietti told Variety: “We’re very excited, we’re in the writers’ room right now.” That August 2026 interview indicated writing was underway before the renewal announcement.

HBO Max Head of Original Programming Sarah Aubrey said in the renewal statement that the team would “deepen the terror, the mystery, and the unforgettable Pennywise lore.” Andy and Barbara Muschietti also described continuing to explore Stephen King’s world as a privilege and thanked HBO and Warner Bros. Television for their support. Their remarks were included in Variety’s report and SYFY Wire’s Season 2 coverage.
Who is making the new season?
Brad Caleb Kane, who co-ran Season 1 with Jason Fuchs, will be the sole showrunner for Season 2. Andy and Barbara Muschietti are continuing as executive producers, according to Variety.

When will Season 2 come out, and who is in the cast?
The August 18–19, 2026 reports cited here did not give a premiere date or announce the Season 2 cast. That describes what had been reported at the time those articles were published; it is not a guarantee that the information remains unchanged. No reliable release window or returning cast members can be established from those reports.
Does the three-season plan mean Season 3 is confirmed?
No. Andy Muschietti has described a creative blueprint spanning 1962, 1935 and 1908, with 27 years between the 1935 and 1962 settings. That is a plan for the story’s possible shape, not an HBO order for three seasons. The confirmed renewal is for Season 2 only, as Variety reported.
