Mayor of Kingstown Season 5 is officially happening. Paramount+ renewed the crime drama on January 5, 2026, ordered eight episodes, and designated the season as the series’ final chapter. Production began in Pittsburgh on March 13, 2026.
The important catch is that viewers should not expect an open-ended renewal: Season 5 is currently planned as the show’s conclusion. Paramount+ has not yet announced a premiere date.
Mayor of Kingstown Season 5 is confirmed—and it will be the final season
This is no longer a question of whether Paramount+ will respond to the Season 4 cliffhanger or to the show’s audience. The network has officially renewed Mayor of Kingstown for a fifth season.
Paramount’s announcement confirms three key details:

- Season 5 has an order of eight episodes.
- It will be the show’s fifth and final season under Paramount’s announced plan.
- The season will stream exclusively on Paramount+, alongside the earlier seasons.
The eight-episode order is shorter than the ten-episode orders used for the preceding seasons, according to the renewal announcement and contemporary coverage. Paramount has not said that the shorter season is the result of a particular production problem, so it would be speculation to assign a reason.
Production has already begun
Paramount+ announced on March 13, 2026, that production was underway in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. That makes Season 5 an active production rather than a project still waiting for a formal green light.
Production beginning does not necessarily mean the premiere is imminent. Filming, post-production, promotional planning, and platform scheduling can all affect the eventual launch date. At the time of the latest official update reviewed for this article, Paramount+ had not announced a Season 5 premiere date.
Who is returning for Season 5?
Jeremy Renner is returning as Mike McLusky, the show’s central intermediary between prisoners, prison officials, law enforcement, and Kingstown’s criminal factions. Edie Falco also remains attached as Nina Hobbs, who was introduced as the new warden of Anchor Bay prison in Season 4.

He will play FBI agent Russell Hardy. Morse is not being presented as a replacement for an existing lead; Paramount’s production information describes him as a new addition to the continuing cast.
What will Season 5 be about?
The clearest confirmed story information concerns Russell Hardy. Paramount’s Season 5 materials indicate that the FBI agent arrives in Kingstown after the murder of Tracy McLusky and investigates the circumstances surrounding her death.

- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
That investigation gives the final season an obvious new pressure point: an outside federal inquiry entering a town where prison politics, local law enforcement, criminal organizations, and the McLusky family are already tightly connected.
Beyond that setup, Paramount has not released a complete synopsis or episode-by-episode plot. Several Season 4 storylines remain available for continuation, including:

- the consequences of Tracy McLusky’s death;
- Mike and Kyle McLusky’s response to Merle Callahan;
- the shifting balance among Kingstown’s criminal factions;
- the developing relationship between Mike and Nina Hobbs;
- the effect of federal scrutiny on Anchor Bay prison and the wider community.
These are unresolved story threads and reasonable areas for a preview—not confirmed descriptions of what every episode will cover. Until Paramount releases fuller synopses, claims about specific twists, episode titles, deaths, or the ending should be treated as speculation.
Why the final-season label matters
Mayor of Kingstown is built around a system rather than a single isolated criminal case. The series follows the McLusky brothers, who serve as liaisons among prisoners, guards, law enforcement, and the surrounding Michigan prison town. That framework gives the writers plenty of conflict to resolve in an eight-episode conclusion.
But “final season” also changes how viewers should interpret the renewal. Paramount+ has not announced Season 5 as the beginning of another multi-season order, and there is no confirmed plan for Season 6. The current official position is that Season 5 will bring the series to an end.
When will Mayor of Kingstown Season 5 be released?
There is no confirmed release date yet. Production began in March 2026, but the official renewal and production information reviewed for this update did not name a premiere month or day.

Some entertainment coverage may predict a late-2026 or 2027 release window, but those are estimates rather than announcements. A filming start date alone is not enough to establish a premiere date, so readers should wait for a direct update from Paramount+ before treating any proposed window as confirmed.
Where can you watch Season 5?
Season 5 will stream exclusively on Paramount+. The platform is also the home of the previous seasons, making it the place to catch up before the final chapter arrives. You can watch Mayor of Kingstown on Paramount+ once the new season is released.
Paramount+’s U.S. signup page listed Essential at $8.99 per month and Premium at $13.99 per month in the research reviewed for this article. The Premium plan was listed as including features such as no ads except live TV, 4K/HDR availability where supported, downloads, live CBS, and SHOWTIME.
What we still do not know
Paramount has confirmed the renewal, episode order, final-season status, production location, principal returning stars, and Russell Hardy’s role. The following details remain unconfirmed:
- the exact premiere date;
- the trailer or promotional release schedule;
- episode titles;
- the complete Season 5 plot;
- how Tracy McLusky’s death will be resolved;
- whether any additional cast members will return;
- the precise ending planned for Mike, Kyle, Nina, and the other major characters.
In other words, the encouraging news is substantial: Season 5 is real and filming has begun. The uncertainty now concerns timing and story details—not whether Paramount+ intends to make the season.
