What the exclusive source reportedly said
PEOPLE’s spring 2024 report, reproduced by AOL, attributed the claim to an unnamed source. The source said: “Melania will keep her hand on Barron’s future just as much going forward as she has throughout his early and current school years.” The source also described Barron as Melania’s world and called her the primary decision maker on his future. Because the remarks came from an anonymous source, they should not be presented as Melania’s own words or as independently established facts about how the family makes decisions.
What Melania said about Barron’s college choice
In a Fox News interview with Ainsley Earhardt that aired September 26, 2024, Melania spoke directly about Barron’s plans. She said, “It was his decision to come here that he wants to be in New York and study in New York and live in his home, and I respect that.” In the same interview, she said, “I could not say I’m an empty nester. Her comments establish what she publicly said about Barron’s choice: she attributed the decision to him and said she respected it. They do not confirm or refute every detail in the anonymous source’s account of her broader involvement.

Barron graduated from Oxbridge Academy in May 2024, according to PEOPLE reporting reproduced by AOL. He arrived at NYU for his first day of classes on September 4, 2024, and enrolled at the university’s Stern School of Business in fall 2024. AOL’s September 2024 report.
In December 2024, PEOPLE reported through unnamed sources, in coverage also reproduced by AOL, that Barron was living at Trump Tower while attending NYU and that the arrangement was best “for now.” That is dated anonymous-source reporting, not confirmation of his current residence.
