Not necessarily zero—but the latest documented update does not establish that Fred Goldman has been paid. In November 2025, O.J. Simpson’s estate accepted Goldman’s creditor claim for $57,997,858.12 plus judgment interest. Acceptance was not payment. The executor had estimated the estate’s total assets at about $500,000 to $1 million, far below the accepted claim.
What the executor said—and what changed
On April 14, 2024, executor Malcolm LaVergne told People that he hoped the Goldman family would receive “zero, nothing” from Simpson’s estate, and that he would try to ensure that outcome. He cited the family’s acquisition and reissue of If I Did It.
The next day, LaVergne walked back the remarks. He said he would handle Fred Goldman’s claim in accordance with Nevada law, as Court News Service reported. The April statement therefore describes his initial position, not the estate’s later handling of the claim.
How much was claimed and accepted?
A California civil jury found Simpson liable in 1997 and awarded $33.5 million to the families of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson in the wrongful-death case, according to the Associated Press. That civil judgment is separate from Simpson’s acquittal in the criminal case.

In November 2025, the estate accepted Fred Goldman’s claim for $57,997,858.12 plus judgment interest. AP reported that Goldman had sought roughly $117 million. The figures refer to different stages: the original 1997 award, the later amount sought, and the amount the estate accepted.
| Figure | What it represents |
|---|---|
| $33.5 million | The civil jury’s 1997 award to the families, as reported by AP. |

| $57,997,858.12 plus judgment interest | The claim the estate accepted in November 2025, as reported by AP. |
Why acceptance does not mean payment
Goldman’s attorney, Michaelle Rafferty, told AP that accepting the claim “does not constitute payment.” LaVergne said the estate would make a voluntary payment, but that it would not be $58 million plus interest. His statement does not establish how much was ultimately paid or when.
LaVergne estimated the estate held about $500,000 to $1 million in total assets, AP reported. That is the executor’s estimate, not a final court-approved inventory or distribution accounting. Nevada law provides for an inventory and appraisement of estate property subject to the court’s jurisdiction; see Nevada Revised Statutes, Chapter 144.

Has Fred Goldman received money?
The available reporting cited here does not establish how much Fred Goldman has actually received as of October 8, 2026, or provide a final distribution accounting. The reported acceptance of the claim should not be described as proof that payment occurred. A later court filing or accounting would be needed to confirm a distribution.
