How old are Magnus, Mattias and Axel?
Publicly reported birth years are 2004 for Magnus, 2006 for Mattias and 2010 for Axel. A November 2025 Us Weekly family guide gives their birthdays as March 7, 2004; December 30, 2006; and January 23, 2010, respectively. Those exact dates are secondary reporting; the birth years are the more widely reported details.
Why did they choose Scandinavian names?
Ferrell told Us Weekly that he and Paulin liked Scandinavian names because of her Swedish background: “My wife was born in Sweden and we loved the idea of a Scandinavian name.” The 2025 report also says all three sons have Paulin as a middle name; that detail is reported there rather than independently corroborated by the other sources cited here.

What is publicly known about each son?
Magnus
Recent 2026 coverage says Magnus has been pursuing music, released his first single in 2024 and took a leave of absence from the University of Southern California. These are time-sensitive details and may change; they do not establish his current enrollment status.
Mattias and Axel
Public reporting offers fewer comparable current details about Mattias and Axel. ABC News identified all three sons in its coverage of the family at the European premiere of Barbie on July 12, 2023, but a single public appearance is not evidence that the family routinely seeks attention. ABC News’ event report names the boys; it does not provide a broader account of their private lives.

What has Ferrell said about raising three boys?
In a 2015 interview with People at the SXSW premiere of Get Hard, republished by TIME, Ferrell joked that managing the household could feel “like running a prison.” He also described the routine as issuing orders such as “Upstairs now!”, “Brush teeth!” and “Lights out!” TIME’s republication presents the remarks as humor about family life, not a detailed account of his sons.
