The Acolyte fans have a real Change.org petition asking Disney and Lucasfilm to continue the series, but the petition is not evidence that Disney has renewed it. Cancellation was reported by secondary outlets; the sources available here do not include a direct Disney or Lucasfilm statement confirming either cancellation or renewal.
What is the petition asking Disney to do?
The Change.org campaign titled “Renew the Acolyte” was created on August 20, 2024. Its organizer describes the series as a story supporters want continued and asks petitioners to send requests to Disney and Lucasfilm. The petition page is the place to read its current wording and participate. Its signature total can change, so a number shown there should be treated as a live count rather than a fixed measure of support.
Signing or sharing the petition is a way for fans to express their preference. It does not itself establish that Disney has changed the show’s status.
Was The Acolyte canceled or renewed?
BGR’s August 22, 2024 coverage discussed the petition in the context of reports that The Acolyte had been canceled. That is secondary reporting, not a direct announcement from Disney or Lucasfilm. The sources cited here do not contain an official statement directly confirming cancellation or renewal, so the careful answer is that cancellation was reported and no renewal is established by those sources.

That distinction matters: the absence of a direct announcement in the sources cited here does not prove that no official statement exists elsewhere. It does mean a fan campaign should not be presented as confirmation that Disney reversed a decision.
Why did fans campaign to save the series?
Lucasfilm describes The Acolyte as a live-action Star Wars series set about 100 years before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, in an era not previously explored in live action. It debuted on Disney+ on June 4, 2024. Lucasfilm’s production page gives the official series description and debut date.

Disney announced a strong opening figure: its June 10, 2024 release reported 4.8 million views in one day and 11.1 million global views over the first five days of streaming. Disney defined a view as total stream time divided by runtime. These are platform-reported viewing metrics, not counts of unique people, and the five-day figure refers specifically to that opening period. Disney’s announcement called the premiere the biggest series premiere on Disney+ of 2024 at that point.
Those opening numbers do not show how the series performed over a longer period, explain any reported cancellation, or establish that the petition influenced Disney’s decision-making.

Did The Acolyte return to Disney+’s charts in 2026?
GamesRadar+ reported on April 28, 2026, that The Acolyte briefly reappeared in Disney+’s top-ten ranking and that fan calls to bring it back picked up again. The outlet attributed the ranking to FlixPatrol and speculated that autoplay after Maul – Shadow Lord may have contributed. This is a report about a temporary chart appearance and renewed fan activity, not official Disney viewing data or evidence of a renewal. Read GamesRadar+’s report.
