That is a clear statement about AI-created stories and art, but it is narrower than a ban on every possible use of AI across DC or its parent company.
What did Jim Lee say?
At a DC retailer event held in the context of New York Comic Con 2025, Lee said: “DC Comics will not support AI-generated storytelling or artwork.” Tom’s Guide reported the statement on October 10, 2025, describing Lee’s remarks in a New York Comic Con panel. Read Tom’s Guide’s report.
Nerdist reported on October 8, 2025, that Lee made related remarks at the pre-New York Comic Con Retailers’ Summit. The reports describe the same event context but label the session differently, so the exact format is not clear from these accounts. Read Nerdist’s report.
What does “will not support” cover?
Lee’s reported commitment names two things: AI-generated storytelling and AI-generated artwork. It should not be stretched into a claim that DC has prohibited every AI tool or use across its operations. The reports do not say whether AI-assisted workflows, administrative tools, marketing, or other non-comic work are allowed or prohibited.

Nor do these reports establish a company-wide policy for Warner Bros. Discovery, DC’s parent company. Nerdist specifically cautions that Lee’s view may not extend to the parent; that caution is not evidence of a particular Warner Bros. Discovery policy.
Why did Lee give this position?
Lee connected his view to the human qualities he believes make art feel authentic. Tom’s Guide attributes these words to him: “People have an instinctive reaction to what feels authentic. We recoil from what feels fake. That’s why human creativity matters. AI doesn’t dream. It doesn’t feel. It doesn’t make art. It aggregates it.”

Nerdist also quotes Lee describing the marks and uncertainty in drawing—the “smudge,” “rough line” and “hesitation”—as part of what makes his work come alive. These remarks explain his stated reasoning; they do not, by themselves, define a detailed operational rule for every kind of AI use.

The available reports document Lee’s public statement, not a published comprehensive policy or an audit of DC’s practices. They do not explain how the commitment is implemented or enforced, and they do not establish whether DC’s position has changed since the 2025 event. The most precise answer is therefore that Lee publicly said DC would not support AI-generated stories or artwork—not that these reports prove a permanent, company-wide ban on all AI.
