A Warcraft 2 movie is possible, but it has not been confirmed. As of October 8, 2026, there is no announced sequel, production start or release date in the sources reviewed. Blizzard executive Holly Longdale said in February 2025 that “there’s nothing off the table,” but also that the company had “nothing to talk about right now.” That signals openness, not a greenlight.
Has Blizzard announced a Warcraft sequel?
No. In a February 25, 2025 interview about Warcraft’s 30th anniversary, Blizzard executive producer and World of Warcraft vice president Holly Longdale was asked about another film. She said, “I will say there’s nothing off the table,” then added of adaptations, “I feel like we would love to do all of it. Blizzard president Johanna Faries also spoke generally in March 2025 about expanding Blizzard franchises, saying the company was “looking at everything” while declining to share anything specific. Her comments concerned Blizzard’s intellectual property broadly; they did not identify a Warcraft film. Read the interview.
Those statements leave the door open to future adaptations, but neither names a project or commits Blizzard to making one. The evidence reviewed establishes no sequel announcement or release date; film plans can change, so a newer official announcement would supersede this status.

What would the sequel have been about?
Director Duncan Jones had a larger story in mind after the 2016 film. His proposed second movie would have followed Go’el, later known as Thrall, as a young orc enslaved in Blackmoore’s gladiator camp. Jones described the trilogy’s broader arc as Thrall fulfilling his father Durotan’s promise to find a new homeland for the orcs, with the third film moving toward Kalimdor and the founding of Orgrimmar. These were unrealized creative plans, not a leaked script or a current production outline. Jones’s account, reported by GameSpot; his earlier comments, reported by ComicBook.com.
Why did the planned sequels stall?
In 2020, Jones said the next two installments were not in the works, pointed to the film’s poor U.S. box office, and said he had “no idea” whether Warcraft sequels would ever be made. He had also explained in 2017 that a sequel was not his decision alone: “It’s not up to me. It’s up to Legendary, and Blizzard, and Universal and too many chiefs.” These remarks describe the circumstances and creative plans at those times; they do not establish today’s rights arrangements or rule out a new project.

How did the 2016 film perform at the box office?
GameSpot reported the following gross figures in March 2025:

GameSpot’s figures show a large difference between the film’s U.S. gross and its worldwide total. Jones identified the weak U.S. result as a factor against the planned follow-ups. Gross receipts are not studio net revenue, however, and these figures do not establish whether the film made a profit or a loss.

Could a future Warcraft movie take a different direction?
There is no confirmed sequel project to compare with a reboot or another adaptation. If a new Warcraft screen project is announced, the details that would clarify what it is include whether it continues the 2016 film’s continuity, which characters or era it adapts, and whether Blizzard and a studio or distributor publicly identify a commitment. Until then, both a Thrall continuation and a fresh adaptation remain hypothetical.
