Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFind the first place the picture turns black: your encoder’s preview, YouTube’s Live Control Room, or only the public player. If OBS’s local preview is already black, start with the video source and scene—not YouTube bitrate settings. If OBS shows the picture correctly, check YouTube’s stream-health messages and the encoder-to-YouTube settings.
First, locate where the picture disappears
Follow the video through the stream chain: source file, encoder preview, YouTube’s incoming stream, then the public player. The earliest point that is black is the most useful clue. A black OBS preview points first to source playback or scene composition; a working OBS preview with a black YouTube output shifts attention to delivery, settings, and YouTube’s health warnings. The phrase “black screen” alone does not establish a particular codec fault, YouTube outage, GPU problem, or damaged file.
If the OBS preview is black
Check the Media Source and active scene before changing transmission settings. OBS’s Media Source controls include playback and file-handling options that can affect whether the video appears.
- Confirm the intended file. Open the Media Source properties and verify that the selected file is the loop you mean to stream and that it can play.
- Check scene visibility and order. In the active scene’s Sources list, make sure the Media Source is visible and not obscured by another source above it.
- Start or restart playback. Check whether playback has begun. If the source is meant to restart whenever it becomes active, enable Restart playback when source becomes active.
- Check loop and end-of-playback behavior. Enable Loop for continuous playback. Review Show nothing when playback ends if the screen goes black at the end of the file.
- Consider inactive-source behavior. OBS offers Close file when inactive. When enabled, the file may take a short time to reload after the source becomes visible again.
These controls are documented in the OBS Media Sources guide. If the preview remains black, keep investigating the file, its playback, and the active scene; lowering the stream bitrate will not repair an image that is already absent locally.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If OBS looks right but YouTube is black
Open the live session in YouTube’s Live Control Room and read the stream-health messages for that session. YouTube’s health guidance covers configuration problems involving video, bitrate, frame rate, codecs, keyframe frequency, audio, and mismatches between primary and backup streams. Use the warning actually shown rather than treating every black screen as the same fault.
Then compare your encoder output with YouTube’s current recommendations. The exact bitrate depends on the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate, so use the row for your actual output mode in YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Ingest protocol: YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS.
- Video codecs: H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1.
- Audio codecs: AAC or MP3.
- Rate control: CBR.
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a two-second interval and says not to exceed four seconds.
Do not choose a bitrate by guesswork or apply a setting for a different resolution, frame rate, or codec. Change the setting implicated by the health message, then check the incoming stream again.
Test the loop before relying on it
Use representative material: YouTube advises testing with audio and video motion similar to what you intend to stream, then watching stream health and messages during the event. Its Help guidance puts it plainly: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

- Start the encoder and confirm the loop is visible in its local preview.
- Check the incoming picture and audio in Live Control Room, along with any stream-health messages.
- Check the public player separately if the Control Room shows a healthy incoming stream but viewers still report a black screen.
- Observe a scene change and a point where the video loops or restarts; those transitions can reveal source-playback or end-of-file behavior.
When dropped frames appear
OBS identifies dropped frames as a sign of an unstable connection to the ingest server or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Check OBS’s dropped-frame counter and connection indicator. If the connection cannot keep up, reducing bitrate may help; match the new value to YouTube’s recommendation for the chosen output mode.
Dropped frames are a delivery signal, not proof that the local video file is black. If OBS preview is black too, return to the source and scene checks rather than treating bitrate as the fix. See the OBS network connection troubleshooting guide.

Common symptoms and next checks
| What you see | Where to investigate first | Useful next check |
|---|---|---|
| Black in OBS preview and on YouTube | Source file or active scene | Verify file selection, source visibility and layering, and Media Source playback controls. |
| Picture in OBS, black or unhealthy incoming stream in Live Control Room | Encoder-to-YouTube delivery | Read the session’s health warning and check codec, bitrate, frame rate, keyframes, audio, and any primary/backup mismatch it identifies. |
| Picture in OBS, dropped frames during delivery | Connection to ingest or unsustainable bitrate | Check OBS’s connection indicators; if needed, reduce bitrate in line with YouTube’s recommendation for the output mode. |
| Black only after the file ends or a source becomes active again | Media Source end-of-playback or reload behavior | Review Loop, Show nothing when playback ends, Restart playback when source becomes active, and Close file when inactive. |
Or let it run in the cloud

Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo also attempts automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams of uploaded videos, not camera-based broadcasts. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start your free first day.
