Jeff Probst said two contestants were removed from Survivor 49 for breaking the pregame rule against talking to other players. After warnings were ignored, production brought in alternates Jason Treul and Michelle “MC” Chukwujekwu. They were told about 12 hours before the game began.
Why were two Survivor 49 players replaced?
Probst said the two players violated the no-talking rule during the pregame sequester in Fiji, where contestants are kept apart before filming. The casting team warned them, but the behavior continued. Probst said the team escalated the issue to him, and production decided to remove both players.
He characterized the conduct as “blatant disrespect for the casting team.” In Probst’s account, the decision was about enforcing the show’s rules: contestants have latitude in how they play, but are expected to respect production’s requirements. He summarized that standard by saying, “Survivor has rules and standards, and if a player crosses that line, we act.” (TV Insider, September 3, 2025; Parade, August 21, 2025)
Who were the alternates?
The replacements were Jason Treul and Michelle “MC” Chukwujekwu. Parade reported they were notified about 12 hours before the game began. Probst described the move as a way to protect the rules and integrity of the game, saying, “The result is a reminder that we take this game very seriously.” (Parade; TV Insider)

The reports do not identify the two removed players or explain precisely what they said or did beyond violating the pregame no-talking rule.
