Tom Sandoval drew criticism in January 2024 after footage from his Thailand trip showed him posing closely with a captive tiger and feeding another through a fence. Vanderpump Rules cast members James Kennedy and Lala Kent condemned the encounter; TMZ also reported that PETA sent Sandoval a letter opposing pay-to-play wild-animal experiences.
What the tiger footage showed
USA TODAY reported on January 4, 2024, that Sandoval’s Instagram Story, posted during a trip to Thailand, showed him interacting with tigers at a zoo. After a fan account reposted the footage, one clip showed a tiger positioned with its front paws on Sandoval’s shoulders. Another showed him feeding a tiger through a fence. The report identified Thailand and a tiger zoo but did not establish the facility’s specific conditions.
USA TODAY’s report, republished by Yahoo Entertainment, described the footage and the reactions that followed.

Kennedy commented on the fan-account repost: “I would never go to a place like this. Let them all run free.” His comment expressed opposition to the encounter; it was not a documented finding about the zoo.

Lala Kent
Kent said she was appalled by the photo and urged people not to support places like it. In a statement reproduced by USA TODAY, she wrote: “I am appalled by the photo my cast member took with a tiger in captivity. This topic has been close to my heart for many years.”
She added: “What is disguised as ‘fun’ and ‘cool’ is, in fact, animal abuse. It’s heartbreaking. I’ve made noise about educating yourselves, & here I am to tell you again… Do not support places like this.” Those are Kent’s stated views, not independent verification of the tiger’s treatment at the venue.

What PETA’s letter said
TMZ reported that PETA sent Sandoval a letter after the footage emerged. The organization argued that celebrity encounters can encourage people to support pay-to-play animal experiences and raised concerns about big-cat welfare and risks to people and animals. PETA’s quoted description of big-cat encounters was its argument, not a verified account of conditions at the specific zoo Sandoval visited.
TMZ’s report reproduces the organization’s concerns and identifies them as part of its letter to Sandoval.
