The criticism is not clearly tied to one specific recent TikTok. It reflects a wider debate about Tom Felton’s continued association with Harry Potter and comments he made about J.K. Rowling at the 2025 Tony Awards. Felton said he was “not really that attuned” to the controversy around Rowling’s views on transgender rights, while expressing gratitude to her for creating the franchise.
What prompted the criticism of Tom Felton?
The clearest documented backlash followed a 2025 Tony Awards interview, rather than a single identified TikTok. Asked whether controversy over Rowling’s views affected him, Felton said he was “not really that attuned” to it. He went on to say he had not seen anything bring the world together more than Potter and that Rowling was responsible for that, adding, “So I’m incredibly grateful.” Euronews/AP reported his remarks and the divided reactions.
Some critics took his answer as indifference to the impact of Rowling’s views, particularly because Felton remains closely associated with the franchise. Other people praised what he said. These are reported reactions, not evidence of a consensus among fans or a measure of how many people agreed with either side.
What do the TikToks have to do with it?
Felton joined the #DracoTok trend
Felton has responded to fan-made videos imagining Draco Malfoy in TikTok scenarios. TikTok’s newsroom documented his reaction and duet posts as part of #DracoTok, a fan trend; it did not connect those videos to the later criticism about Rowling. The newsroom reported 3.5 billion views for the hashtag at the time of its historical article, but its live page does not clearly specify the year, so that figure should not be treated as current. TikTok’s account of Felton’s #DracoTok videos includes the caption: “POV: watching @t22felton react to your ##dracotok videos 🐍##amidoingthisrightyet?”

The connection is broader than a single post
A 2026 article in The Tab links Felton’s TikTok activity and ongoing Harry Potter association with the Tony Awards interview. That is the outlet’s framing of the story, not proof that a particular video triggered the response. Its account discusses both the social-media context and his remarks.
Why is Rowling part of the debate?
Rowling’s public views on transgender rights have become controversial. In his interview, Felton did not offer a detailed position on that controversy; he said he was not very attuned to it and emphasized his gratitude for the books and the connections he associates with Potter. Critics objected to what they understood that response to imply, while supporters focused on his positive account of the franchise. His words do not, by themselves, establish his private beliefs about every aspect of the dispute.

The argument also sits within a larger conversation about whether performers should take part in projects connected to Rowling. ITV’s 2026 coverage describes differing public positions among cast members in the broader franchise debate; it does not identify a new Felton TikTok as the cause of criticism. ITV’s report covers that wider discussion. A critical opinion piece from BuzzFeed offers another example of commentary, rather than a neutral measure of public opinion: BuzzFeed’s commentary.

- Documented: Felton took part in #DracoTok by reacting to fan videos.
- Documented: His widely discussed comments about Rowling came in a 2025 Tony Awards interview.
- Reported: Reactions included both criticism and support.
- Not established: The sources do not identify one specific recent TikTok as the trigger, measure the scale of the backlash, or show that all fans share one view.
The most supportable explanation is that Felton’s lighthearted, ongoing presence in a franchise tied to Rowling has drawn renewed attention to what he said about her controversy—not that a particular TikTok has been verified as the cause.
