Tia Mowry said the “distance” she described between herself and twin sister Tamera reflected geography and the demands of raising separate families—not a major falling-out. In a December 2025 update, Tia said they had agreed to check in every Sunday, by FaceTime or text.
What Tia meant by “distance”
The question arose after a September 2024 trailer for Tia’s WeTV docuseries, Tia Mowry: My Next Act, showed her saying she wished she and Tamera were still close and that she could pick up the phone and call her. The excerpt appeared as Tia reflected on a difficult period after her divorce, but it did not establish that the sisters had fallen out.
In a September 24, 2024 interview with Us Weekly, Tia explained that adults take on new roles and responsibilities as they start families, and that children depend on their parents. Those obligations, she said, can make siblings less available to one another and reduce the time they spend together in person. She also said, “I love my sister very much. She loves me very much. We have a closeness and a beautiful connection.”
Geography was part of that explanation. Us Weekly reported in 2024 that Tia and some relatives lived in Los Angeles while Tamera lived in Napa with her family. That report describes the situation at the time, not necessarily their current residences.

What was said after the trailer
Tamera’s 2024 holiday invitation
On November 1, 2024, Tamera said she and her husband had invited Tia to their Christmas gathering, which she described as an annual invitation to the extended family. The remarks were reported by Us Weekly from an interview with People. Tamera named Tia among the invited relatives; the report did not say whether Tia attended.
Tia’s Sunday check-in update
In an interview clip with Entertainment Tonight reported by Us Weekly on December 17, 2025, Tia said the public had assumed there was a “huge rift or distance,” but that was not the case. She said the sisters had “made a pact” to reach out once a week, on Sundays, whether by FaceTime or text. This is Tia’s account of their arrangement, not a claim that it reveals every private aspect of their relationship.

The timeline distinguishes the emotional wording in a reality-show trailer from Tia’s subsequent explanation and later update. She attributed less frequent contact to family responsibilities and physical distance, while affirming that the sisters love each other. Tamera’s reported invitation and Tia’s account of a weekly check-in add context, but neither establishes how every part of their relationship has unfolded. The reports do not substantiate claims that politics, jealousy, marriage, or a feud caused the distance.
