The first Superman video, officially released as a teaser on December 19, 2024, makes hope feel less like a superpower than a choice: Superman is hurt, people still need him, and he helps even when some of them turn against him. That contrast is the teaser’s central idea.
What happens in the first Superman trailer?
DC called the December 19, 2024 video a teaser; it is often referred to as the first trailer. Its first official look at David Corenswet as Clark Kent moves between his life as a reporter, his relationships, and the public crises that draw Superman into action. DC’s overview of the teaser and its frame-by-frame breakdown describe several of its key images.
- Clark appears in the Daily Planet bullpen, where he and Lois Lane exchange glances.
- The teaser visits the Kent farm and shows Jonathan Kent.
- Krypto comes to Superman’s aid while he lies wounded in the snow.
- A child raises a homemade Superman flag and calls for help; Superman rescues people.
- Later, a crowd shouts at Superman and throws garbage at him.
- The montage also includes a giant monster, Lex Luthor, Guy Gardner, Metamorpho, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, and glimpses of the Fortress of Solitude and a mystery figure or object.
Those are images, not explanations of the story. DC’s breakdown does not identify the giant monster or resolve the meaning of several brief glimpses.
Why does the Superman trailer feel so hopeful?
The teaser builds its idea of hope through three beats: vulnerability, need, and action. Superman is visibly injured before the images turn to people looking for his help. The child’s homemade flag makes that need personal; the crowd’s hostility complicates it. The message is not that everyone trusts or admires Superman. It is that he keeps helping when trust is uncertain and approval is absent.

DC contributor Joshua Lapin-Bertone interprets the boy with the flag as an image of hope. That is an interpretation of the shot, not a confirmed plot point. The wider contrast is visible in the sequence itself: Superman’s ability to act does not erase his vulnerability, and public anger does not stop people from needing him.
Who is the dog in the Superman trailer?
The dog is Krypto, Superman’s companion. In the teaser, Krypto appears as Superman lies wounded in the snow and comes to his aid. The moment makes the hero’s vulnerability concrete: in this scene, Superman is not the rescuer but the one who needs help.

How do Lois and Clark show different kinds of hope?
The teaser gives hope a relational dimension through Lois Lane and Clark Kent. Their shared moments at the Daily Planet sit alongside the more direct rescues, suggesting that Superman’s immediate response is only one way to confront a problem. Lois’s work—questioning, investigating, and seeking the facts—offers another.
At the trailer premiere, as reported by DC, Lois actor Rachel Brosnahan described their shared commitment and different methods: “They’re united in the fact that they are both in relentless pursuit of truth and justice, but they approach the world in totally different ways.” In the same DC account, Brosnahan characterized Lois as someone who questions and investigates, while Superman responds to the issue directly in front of him. Together, those approaches frame hope as both discovering what is wrong and doing something about it.

What does the music say about this Superman?
The score, composed by John Murphy, reworks the familiar Superman theme by John Williams. DC reports that writer-director James Gunn explained his aim at a trailer event: “I said I wanted to use a version of the Williams theme, but I wanted to do our own version of it.” The musical idea matches the teaser’s broader balance: recognizable history, presented through a new arrangement rather than simple repetition.
