The Film Critics Guild condemned what it described as targeted attacks on critics who reviewed Dhurandhar, alleging threats, coordinated online abuse and pressure to influence reviews or editorial decisions. The Guild said the issue was not simply disagreement over a film, but whether critics and publications could express their views independently. The allegations were reproduced in reports by The Wire and Scroll; those reports do not independently establish who was responsible or verify each alleged act.
What the Film Critics Guild said happened
In a statement issued on December 11, 2025, the Film Critics Guild said it “strongly condemns the targeted attacks, harassment, and hate” directed at critics for their reviews of Dhurandhar. The Guild said disagreement had escalated into coordinated abuse and personal attacks, including efforts to discredit critics’ professional integrity.
The Guild further alleged that critics faced intimidation, including direct threats and online campaigns, and that there were attempts to tamper with reviews, influence editorial positions or persuade publications to change their stance. These are the Guild’s claims as reproduced by The Wire and reported by Scroll; the cited coverage does not independently verify the alleged conduct or identify those responsible.
Which critics and review were mentioned in reports?
Scroll named Anupama Chopra and Sucharita Tyagi among critics trolled on social media over their reviews. It also reported that The Hollywood Reporter India took down Chopra’s critical review. The report does not establish why the outlet removed it, so the removal alone does not show that the Guild’s alleged pressure caused the decision.

Why the Guild said the issue mattered
The Guild framed its response as a defence of independent criticism and editorial autonomy. It said viewers are free to like or dislike a film, but critics should not be expected to “fall in line.” Its statement argued that criticism should not be reduced to a one-line social-media reaction or made to conform to promotional narratives.
“The integrity of cultural discourse depends on the ability of critics to speak freely and without fear,” the Guild said in the statement published by The Wire. The organization called for restraint and respect from the public, the film industry and other stakeholders.
What is Dhurandhar?
Scroll identified Dhurandhar as a Hindi film directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan and Sanjay Dutt. The film opened in theatres on December 5, 2025, according to Scroll.

Those figures are a snapshot reported at the time, not a verified current membership count, and they do not indicate how many critics were affected by the reported attacks.
