The Bear is worth sticking with if you want to see what its characters do with a major change in direction—but its fifth season is also its final one. After Carmy leaves the food industry, Sydney, Richie, and Sugar take on the restaurant’s next chapter. That makes the closing season a chance for the series to build toward an ending, not a promise that every viewer will like the payoff or that other shows will get the same opportunity.
Is season five the last season of The Bear?
Yes. The Walt Disney Company announced on May 6, 2026, that season five would be the series’ final season, with a premiere date of June 25, 2026. FX’s series page also describes it as the final season. Disney’s announcement is the source for the date and season details; FX’s series page confirms the final-season framing.
The distinction matters: there is no new season beyond season five to wait for, but there is still a final chapter to watch. Whether it feels worthwhile depends on whether you want to see the ensemble carry the story forward after Carmy’s departure.
What changes in the final season?
Disney’s synopsis starts with Sydney, Richie, and Natalie “Sugar” learning that Carmy has quit the food industry and left the restaurant to them. They face money problems, the possibility of a sale, and a storm as they work toward one last service. The setup shifts the immediate focus from Carmy’s ambitions to the people who must decide what happens to the restaurant without him.

That change gives the remaining characters consequential work to do: they are not simply reacting to Carmy, but confronting the restaurant’s future themselves. For viewers invested in Sydney, Richie, or Sugar, the premise offers a clear reason to continue. It does not establish in advance that every character arc will resolve in a satisfying way.
Can a late creative pivot make a show worth continuing?
It can, but a pivot is an opportunity rather than a guarantee. TIME’s recap of season four characterized much of it as stagnant, while seeing potential in the finale’s shake-up. The Daily Beast’s 2026 season-five review judged that the show had regained momentum. Those are individual critical judgments, not proof of a universal turnaround or a prediction that every viewer will agree.

If you are deciding whether to watch on, consider what you want from the final stretch:
- Changing relationships: Does it interest you to see Sydney, Richie, and Sugar take on more responsibility together?
- Forward motion: Does the restaurant’s possible sale and the push toward one last service create stakes you want to follow?
- Character choices: Are you invested in how the characters respond to Carmy’s exit, rather than only in whether he returns to the kitchen?
- Payoff: Are you willing to watch for the series’ chosen ending without expecting every loose thread to land exactly as you would prefer?
If those questions still draw you in, season five gives you a reason to stay. If what you chiefly wanted was a continuation of the earlier dynamic, the new arrangement may not be the experience you hoped for.

What The Bear can—and cannot—say about other TV favorites
The Bear is one example of a series changing its focus late in its run. It is not evidence that another show will be renewed, rescued from cancellation, or improve after a difficult season. Those outcomes depend on each show’s circumstances and creative choices.
It helps to separate two questions: “Is there more coming?” and “Is it worth watching what the creators chose to make?” For The Bear, the first has a definite answer: season five is the finale. For another series, check its official status before treating a cliffhanger, an online campaign, or a creative shake-up as evidence of renewal.

Where to watch and what its awards do—and do not—tell you
Disney identifies Hulu as the U.S. streaming destination and Disney+ as the international destination for the series; local catalogs can vary. Check the service in your territory for current availability. Disney’s season-five announcement names those destinations.
The Television Academy’s current series record lists The Bear with 22 Emmy wins and 57 nominations, including a 2026 Outstanding Comedy Series nomination. These are counts on the Academy’s page reviewed October 8, 2026, and can change as later ceremonies are added. The Television Academy’s record documents recognition; it cannot decide whether the finale will satisfy a particular viewer.

Separately, Disney’s season-five renewal announcement said the second season won 11 Emmy Awards, which the company described at the time as the most wins for a comedy series in a single year. That figure is about season two, not the show’s total. FX chairman John Landgraf said in the same announcement that the series remained a worldwide fan favorite and that viewership for the season was “incredibly high.” That is an attributed company-executive statement, not a published numerical audience figure. Disney’s renewal announcement includes both statements.
