The white and cream outfits worn by Taylor Swift, Brittany Mahomes, Ice Spice and others at Super Bowl LIX were widely reported as a coordinated nod to the Kansas City Chiefs, who played that game in their white away uniforms. The coverage describes this as an apparent or likely explanation. None of the three women is quoted in the reporting confirming that the team’s jerseys were her reason for the look.
The uniform matchup that set the color scheme
Super Bowl LIX was played on February 9, 2025, in New Orleans. Before the game, the NFL reported the uniform pairing in advance: “The Kansas City Chiefs will wear their away white uniforms on Feb. 9 when they take on the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles, who will wear their home greens.” (NFL.com, Around the NFL staff, January 28, 2025.)
The color assignment followed a rule of the sport rather than a fashion decision. Sports Illustrated reported in January 2025 that Philadelphia, as the designated home team, had first choice of jersey color, and it chose green. Kansas City therefore wore white, not its usual red. That is the context in which the outfits were read: a Chiefs-themed look on a night when the Chiefs were visibly in white.

Because the brand and garment details come from a small number of outlets, readers should treat them as reported observations rather than confirmed product information.
Why the look was linked to the Chiefs
The fashion coverage explained the choice in one direction: Swift and Ice Spice wore white because the Chiefs played in white, and Brittany Mahomes and Ashley Avignone were also seen in the same palette. That reading is an inference drawn from the timing and the matching colors, not a statement from the women. The cleanest way to describe it is that the group’s look appeared to echo the Chiefs’ uniforms, or was widely read as coordinating with them.

The link is also a matter of audience expectation. Kansas City’s fan base and the team’s connection to Mahomes and Swift made a color-matched look an easy story for outlets to tell, which helps explain why the explanation spread quickly once the uniform pairing was public.
The 17–3 record and what it does not show
Sports Illustrated reported that teams in white had a 17–3 record across the 20 Super Bowls preceding its January 28, 2025 article. That figure is a historical record of uniform color, and it was offered as context for the matchup. It does not show that white jerseys cause wins, and it played no part in the reported reasons for anyone’s outfit.

Context for the Chiefs and Eagles meeting
The two teams had met before. In Super Bowl LVII, in February 2023, Kansas City beat Philadelphia 38–35, according to the NFL’s retrospective summary of the rivalry. The Eagles beat the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, so the uniform story and the result were separate threads of the same night.
