BGR reported that it reached No. 7 on Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 movies list on October 1, 2025—but that is a dated chart position, not a live ranking or proof that the film is currently available on Netflix in the United States.
What is the Josh Lucas movie?
Sweet Home Alabama follows New York fashion designer Melanie Carmichael, played by Reese Witherspoon, after she becomes engaged to Andrew, a prominent New Yorker played by Patrick Dempsey. Before moving forward, she returns to Alabama to resolve her marriage to Jake, played by Lucas. Andy Tennant directed the film, which was released by Touchstone on September 27, 2002. D23’s film entry and the AFI Catalog identify the film and its credits.

Disney+ describes the story this way: “A New York clothing designer gets engaged to the city’s most eligible bachelor, but when her Alabama home tugs at her heartstrings, she is forced to decide what she really wants after all.” That synopsis appears on the Disney+ title page.
What does “blowing up on Netflix” mean?
It refers to a specific past chart placement. In a report dated October 1, 2025, BGR said Sweet Home Alabama was No. 7 on Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 movies list. That supports saying the film appeared on the U.S. list at that time; it does not establish its rank today. BGR’s report also relayed Rotten Tomatoes scores of 78% from more than 250,000 audience ratings and 38% from critics as they appeared then. Those figures are date-sensitive and should not be read as current scores.

Is it on Netflix now?
Current availability depends on territory and can change. A Netflix title page surfaced for Senegal, but a listing on that country-specific page does not confirm that the film is available in the United States—or in any other particular region. Netflix’s Senegal page identifies the film as a 2002 title starring Reese Witherspoon, Josh Lucas and Patrick Dempsey. For a current answer, search Netflix from the account and country where you plan to watch; the dated chart report is not an availability check.
How long is the film?
D23 lists the runtime as 109 minutes. Other service listings differ: Disney+ gives 1 hour 50 minutes, while Apple TV gives 1 hour 48 minutes. Those are source-specific listings, so it is best to check the runtime shown by the service or edition you use rather than treating the figures as interchangeable.

Can you get it on disc?
D23 records a video release in 2003, so DVD is a physical-media option to look for if you want to own a copy. That historical release does not confirm current stock, a particular edition, or compatibility with every player. Check the seller’s current listing and the disc’s region format before buying.
