Why Balbir makes Vicky the standout
He carries both authority and vulnerability
Balbir is not just the officer overseeing a case. His rank gives him procedural authority, while the pressures Netflix’s episode summaries associate with his home life make him a person with vulnerabilities and needs beyond the job. The contrast gives Vicky a character who can anchor the police story without reducing it to clue-finding.
His partnership with Garundi creates a second story
Balbir’s relationship with younger officer Amarpal Garundi is central to the season-one case for Vicky. Showrunner Sudip Sharma described the pair as forming “a brotherhood of sorts” despite their differences in age and rank. That description, from a February 23, 2026 NDTV interview, points to a partnership with its own emotional development: the officers’ differences matter, but so does the connection they build while working together.

The investigation tests a complicated man
Balbir’s personal stakes and his bond with Garundi let the case press on more than professional judgment. Vicky’s role links the mechanics of an investigation to questions of trust, companionship, responsibility, and how people handle what remains unresolved in their lives. That is why “standout” is a useful description of his dramatic function, even without a measurable ranking of the cast.
What kind of crime drama is Kohrra?
Kohrra is a Punjab-set crime investigation drama, but its first season is not framed solely as a puzzle about who committed a crime. Netflix describes the series as a slow-burn mystery and promotes its interest in human nature; those are the distributor’s genre and marketing descriptions, not independent critical findings. Viewers looking for a fast-moving procedural may find the emphasis on relationships and emotional consequences just as important as the investigation.

Season two, which premiered February 11, 2026, moves Garundi to Dalerpura, where he works under Dhanwant Kaur, played by Mona Singh, on a fresh case. The new pairing changes the series’ investigative dynamic: season one centers Balbir and Garundi, while season two puts Garundi with a different boss. Netflix’s announcement centers Barun Sobti and Mona Singh in its season-two framing, so Vicky should not be described as the second season’s lead. Sharma said of the season’s approach to Punjab: “This season as well, we’ve tried to bring forth as authentic a portrayal of Punjab as possible, with the characters rooted in a universal reality we’ve seen play out across the country.” That is the showrunner’s stated intention, not independent verification of the series’ authenticity.
