Stranger Things recast Holly Wheeler for its fifth and final season: Anniston and Tinsley Price played her in seasons 1–4, and Nell Fisher plays her in season 5. The change accompanied a larger shift in Holly’s role, from a mostly peripheral child to a protagonist.
Who plays Holly Wheeler in Stranger Things 5?
The Wheeler family’s youngest child is played by Nell Fisher in season 5. The Price twins, Anniston and Tinsley, portrayed Holly in the first four seasons. Netflix’s interview with Fisher and executive producer Shawn Levy, published December 4, 2025, discusses the recast and Holly’s expanded part. Netflix’s season 5 cast listing also identifies Fisher as Holly Wheeler.
Why was Holly recast?
The role changed in scale as well as performer. Fisher described Holly’s earlier place in the story this way: “Holly’s been important but on the periphery, and this season, Holly becomes a protagonist.”
Levy said the Duffers wanted Holly to become a main character in the final season. Because the character had previously been played by twins when they were very young, the production needed a performer around the age the story wanted to emphasize. Levy connected that age framing to the series’ themes of childhood and innocence.

The explanation given by Levy is about the needs of the final-season story. The available account does not establish that the recast was prompted by the earlier actors’ performance, scheduling, or contract issues.
How does the recast change Holly’s place in the story?
In seasons 1–4, Holly was a very young member of the Wheeler family who remained largely on the edge of the central action. In season 5, she is an adolescent character with a much more active, protagonist-level role. The casting change reflects that new age framing and narrative focus; it is not presented as a judgment comparing Fisher’s performance with the Price twins’ work.
