Calling him the coverage’s “MVP” is an argument about that contribution—not an official award or a proven ratings ranking.
What Snoop Dogg’s NBC role involved
NBCUniversal announced on Dec. 31, 2023, that Snoop would serve as a special correspondent, filing regular reports from Paris for NBC and Peacock starting July 26, 2024. The plan called for him to attend competitions and events, explore Paris landmarks, visit athletes, friends and families, and speak with primetime host Mike Tirico. NBCUniversal’s announcement described the appeal as his “unique take.”
NBC Sports’ June 26 programming announcement placed him in Primetime in Paris on most nights. His reports were meant to follow a day of event attendance and visits, as part of a broader reimagining of Olympic primetime built around storytelling and athlete access. NBC named its broadcast network and Peacock as primary platforms for the coverage. NBC Sports’ programming announcement
Executive producer Molly Solomon said in July 2024 that Snoop was joining prime time because viewers were eager to follow his daily Paris adventures. She also described the wider production as pairing nontraditional voices with expert communicators. NBC Sports’ media conference transcript

Why NBC brought him to Paris
The immediate precedent was Snoop’s commentary on dressage highlights during the Tokyo Olympics. Solomon said that coverage had generated “tens of millions of views” and added: “That performance alone has earned Snoop a job as our Special Correspondent in Paris.” The view figure is Solomon’s characterization in NBC’s announcement; NBC did not give an exact count there. NBCUniversal’s announcement
His hiring also fit NBC’s broader strategy of placing entertainment personalities alongside established sports voices. Associated Press reported that NBC research found people ages 26–40 wanted more pop culture in everyday Olympics conversation; the report did not provide a numeric result or methodology for that finding. Snoop explained the appeal of the recruited entertainers this way: “We speak to a broader audience.” Associated Press report

What makes the “MVP” case
The case is about what Snoop added to the broadcast, not a measurable contest among NBC contributors. His assignment gave a nightly Olympic program room for athlete encounters, the atmosphere of Paris and a recognizable entertainment perspective alongside event coverage. That combination made the Games feel less like a sequence of results and more like a human event—an especially fitting contribution for a documentary-minded audience interested in the people and place behind the spectacle.
The clearest on-record assessment came from Tirico, who reflected on Snoop’s contribution in NBC Olympics’ retrospective: “He reminded us that sports is about people and it’s about fun, and he brought both of those.” NBC Olympics’ retrospective

Snoop also carried the Olympic flame through Saint-Denis shortly before the Opening Ceremony, a ceremonial appearance separate from his correspondent duties. NBC Olympics’ report on the torch relay
“MVP” is therefore a fair editorial verdict on the distinctiveness and personality of his contribution. It should not be mistaken for a title NBC formally awarded him, evidence that his reports were the most watched, or proof that his presence caused a ratings increase. The available account supports the role and Tirico’s praise, not a comparative performance ranking.
