Pink said her friends named her after Mr. Pink, the character played by Steve Buscemi in Reservoir Dogs. She described him as a “total smart-ass” and said the nickname stuck. Her account establishes the film connection, but not that it was the only reason for her stage name.
Pink’s explanation: a nickname tied to Reservoir Dogs
In a 2009 interview with Philadelphia Magazine, Pink was asked, “What’s the story behind your name?” She replied: “Mr. Pink, Steve Buscemi’s character, was a total smart-ass. I was the only girl, the token white girl. I got a tattoo on my thigh that says ‘Mr. Pink,’ and it just stuck.” The interviewer’s preceding question and answer indicate that her friends loved Reservoir Dogs.

That first-person account is the clearest explanation: her friends connected her with Mr. Pink, and the nickname endured. It supports calling the film an influence on the name, rather than claiming Pink said it was definitively the sole origin.
Was the name inspired by her pink hair?
Hot-pink hair became part of Pink’s look during her solo career, but the available reporting does not establish hair color as the origin of her name. A 2003 Los Angeles Times profile links the name to Mr. Pink and separately discusses her solo-era appearance. Those are related details, not proof that the hairstyle explains the name.
