Sports commentator Sarah Spain said that seeing then-Vice President JD Vance at a U.S. women’s hockey game against Czechia during the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics made her feel ill. She also said his security detail obstructed her view of the ice. Those remarks, as reported from her podcast, were personal reaction and criticism—not a medical claim or an independently verified account of how much of the rink was blocked.
What happened at the hockey game?
Spain described seeing Vance arrive with a security detail during the United States’ women’s hockey game against Czechia at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Reports also say Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived during the game, and that Vance was carrying a child. The reports place Spain’s account on the February 6, 2026 episode of Good Game with Sarah Spain.
What did Sarah Spain say about seeing Vance?
As quoted by NJ.com and the New York Post, Spain said: “When I see JD Vance’s eyeliner face, I literally feel ill.” She added: “I feel like I just looked at a demon, like the devil, and I don’t even believe in that.”
Spain characterized her response as an emotional reaction: “That’s what my body felt like. And I was in no way prepared to see him,” she said, according to NJ.com’s account. She also said, “It made me so angry.” The “ill” and “demon” language is her own figurative description, not a diagnosis or a factual claim about Vance.
