Sara Carton said she turned down Ben Mezzenga at the Love Is Blind altar because several unresolved doubts had built up, leaving her unable to say yes. In a March 7, 2025 interview with Us Weekly, she described concerns raised by information she received about Ben, conversations about values and religion that she felt were not progressing, and a persistent unease. She said no single allegation made the decision for her.
What Sara said led to her decision
Sara’s explanation was cumulative: she continued the relationship while hoping they could work through her concerns, but her doubts remained by the wedding. She told Us Weekly that she loved Ben and could not imagine him out of her life, yet still felt she could not agree to marry him.
“I had hesitations even though I was like, ‘I love this person. I can’t imagine him not in my life anymore.’ But I still knew I [couldn’t] say yes. It just wouldn’t sit right,” she said.
Claims she said she received
Sara said a TikTok reached her alleging that Ben had mistreated an ex. She said it raised concerns about trust and safety for her and her family, but she continued moving forward at the time. The interview reports Sara’s account of the allegation; it does not independently establish that the alleged mistreatment occurred.

She also said she received social-media posts about Ben, including a claim that he had given business cards promoting his YouTube channel to past flings. According to Sara, a card or picture of it reached her five days before the wedding. She did not raise it with Ben then. This, too, is information she said she received, not an independently verified account of what happened.
Conversations that did not feel resolved
Sara said discussions about values, religion, and other difficult subjects did not seem to move forward. She felt she was repeatedly asking questions without getting enough in return. “Ultimately, throughout our relationship and continuing to talk about the values and having those hard conversations, I felt like we never progressed,” she told Us Weekly.

Watching the wedding back, Sara said she realized religion seemed to matter more to Ben than she had understood from their everyday conversations. Seeing him pray with family members at the wedding confused her; that was her interpretation of the footage and their earlier discussions.
Why she described it as a feeling that something was off
Sara said Ben told her he loved her, but she questioned whether his words carried weight and wondered whether she was being too critical. Her account was not that one moment suddenly changed her mind: she described an ongoing unease that persisted despite her hope that the relationship could work.
