This was not an Opening Ceremony role: the ceremony took place three days later, on 26 July. Paris 2024’s account names Hayek among the torchbearers but does not say why she personally was selected.
What role did Salma Hayek have at Paris 2024?
Paris 2024 reported that Hayek Pinault carried the torch during the relay procession through the Château de Versailles. The account lists her as an actress, producer and activist and places her alongside French singer, actor and producer Patrick Bruel. It identifies her as a torchbearer, not as an Opening Ceremony performer. Paris 2024’s report on the Yvelines relay stage says 175 torchbearers took part that day.
Was she picked for the Opening Ceremony?
No. The relay appearance at Versailles was on 23 July. The City of Paris dates the Opening Ceremony to 26 July 2024 and describes its Seine-centered route as six kilometers, from Pont d’Austerlitz to Trocadéro. The ceremony took place outside a stadium; Hayek’s documented appearance was part of the torch relay three days earlier. The City of Paris’s ceremony overview provides the setting and route details.
How were Paris 2024 torchbearers selected?
Paris 2024 announced 11,000 torchbearers across the Olympic and Paralympic relays: 10,000 for the Olympic relay and 1,000 for the Paralympic relay. The organizing committee said partners across the organizing ecosystem contributed to selections through several routes, including applications, sponsorship, competitions and prize draws. It also cited inspirational personal stories and the relay’s themes as part of the program’s approach. The committee’s torchbearer announcement describes the overall process.

The IOC likewise described the Olympic relay as a 69-day journey across France and its overseas territories involving around 10,000 torchbearers, including French Olympians, sporting legends and people chosen for positive impact on French society. The IOC’s account of the relay’s final leg gives that broader context. Neither general description identifies which selection route or criterion applied to Hayek Pinault.
Why was Hayek personally chosen?
The official accounts cited here do not explain why Hayek Pinault was selected, who nominated her, or which partner or selection method was involved. Her description as an actress, producer and activist is biographical context, not a stated selection rationale. The supported answer is therefore limited: she was one of the torchbearers at Versailles, but the public accounts do not disclose the individual reason for her inclusion.
