Reginald VelJohnson was moved by fan support after he and his Dancing with the Stars partner, Emma Slater, were saved from elimination in season 33. In a video Slater shared, he watched clips of fans celebrating their survival and said, “Now I’m going to go home and cry.”
Why was Reginald VelJohnson crying?
VelJohnson’s tears came as he watched fans react to the news that he and Slater had avoided elimination. TV Insider reported on September 30, 2024, that Slater shared the video. It captures an emotional response to the audience’s support and the relief of being saved—not a moment filmed during a live performance.

How the moment fit into season 33
VelJohnson and Slater performed “Motownphilly” in week one and “Ode to Joy” in week two. TV Insider reported scores of 16 and 15, respectively, for a combined 31 points. Those judges’ scores were only part of the outcome: fan votes also counted in deciding who was safe.
