When Ravish Kumar left NDTV
NDTV announced Kumar’s departure in an internal email on November 30, 2022. He had joined the broadcaster in 1996 and had anchored Hindi programs including Hum Log, Ravish ki Report, Des Ki Baat and Prime Time. NDTV President Suparna Singh wrote in the email, as quoted by The Indian Express: “Few journalists have impacted people as much as Ravish did.”
Why did he resign?
The resignation took place amid a fast-moving ownership transition at NDTV. On November 22, 2022, the Adani Group began an open offer for an additional 26 percent stake in the broadcaster. On November 29, founders Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy resigned as directors of promoter company RRPR Holding. Kumar resigned the following day.
In a December 20, 2022 interview with Karan Thapar for The Wire, Kumar said that when news of the impending takeover emerged, he believed it was meant to remove his presence from television. He also acknowledged that others saw the transaction as a normal corporate takeover. Kumar’s statement, “I could not be bought over, so I was removed,” is his characterization of events, not independent proof of the buyer’s intentions.

The sequence places his resignation in the context of the takeover process, but the available accounts do not independently establish that the acquisition was intended to silence him or that he was forced to leave. The distinction matters: the dates and corporate actions are documented, while the explanation of motive is Kumar’s stated belief.

The control date comes after both the open-offer launch and Kumar’s resignation. NDTV’s annual report, rather than the November resignation announcement, is the source for the December 30 control date.

What Kumar said he would do next
In the December 2022 interview, Kumar said he would continue speaking through his YouTube channel. That statement records his plans at the time; it does not establish his current publishing activity.
