The claim that Prince William had “no incentive” to speak to Prince Harry after Harry’s BBC interview came from anonymous royal sources quoted by The Mirror—not from a public statement by William. The reports framed the reaction around mistrust and the difficulty of having private conversations while family disagreements are discussed publicly.
What did Harry say in the BBC interview?
Harry gave the interview on May 2, 2025, after the Court of Appeal ruled against him in his challenge over UK security arrangements, according to reports by the Daily Record and AOL/InStyle. He spoke about wanting to reconcile with his family and acknowledged that some relatives might never forgive him for writing his memoir, Spare.
As quoted by the Daily Record, Harry said: “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has. It would be nice to reconcile.” That is Harry’s on-record sentiment as reproduced in the reporting; it does not establish how William or other relatives privately responded.
Where did the “no incentive” claim come from?
The phrase was attributed to an unnamed source quoted by The Mirror, whose account was reproduced by AOL/InStyle. The source said: “There is certainly no incentive to do so when he is so free to openly criticize and only ever present one view, being his.” The quotation is not William speaking, and the reports do not independently verify it as his personal view.

The same source account described a “major trust issue” and argued that public comments make private conversations difficult. Those are anonymous-source explanations, not independently established facts about William’s thoughts or the family’s private discussions. The available accounts repeat the same source explanation, so that repetition should not be mistaken for separate confirmation.
Why was the court ruling part of the story?
The interview followed the Court of Appeal ruling against Harry in his challenge over UK security arrangements, as reported by the Daily Record and BBC News. The legal outcome provides the immediate backdrop to the interview; it does not establish the cause of any family disagreement or prove the anonymous sources’ account of William’s reaction.
