Poof, the baby fairy born to Cosmo and Wanda in the original The Fairly OddParents, returns as a grown-up character in The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish—and now goes by Peri. He explains the new name in the episode: “I changed my name to Peri, like periwinkle.”
Why did Poof change his name to Peri?
Peri’s own explanation is the clearest answer: he chose the name because it sounds like “periwinkle.” TVLine also suggested the name may nod to Fairywinkle, his mother Wanda’s maiden name, but presented that as an inference—not a confirmed explanation from the show’s creators.
So the episode establishes the in-story reason, but the available reporting does not establish a separate, official production reason for renaming him.
Is Peri the grown-up Poof?
Yes. TVLine reported that the character introduced in A New Wish is a grown-up Poof, now using the name Peri. In the episode, he is Dev’s fairy godfather. Eric Bauza voices him, according to TVLine’s July 22, 2024 report: TVLine’s report on Poof’s return as Peri.

How does Peri fit into A New Wish?
The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish brings Cosmo and Wanda back as fairy godparents, this time to Hazel Wells, a 10-year-old who has moved to Dimmadelphia. Nickelodeon’s February 23, 2024 announcement describes the pair as returning after a “10,000-year vacation across space and time.” The CG-animated series was announced as a 20-episode installment in the franchise.
The new series follows the original’s fairy-godparent premise while introducing Hazel and a new setting. TVLine describes it as a continuation; Nickelodeon calls it a reimagining that extends the fairy universe. Those descriptions establish the relationship at a broad level, but do not spell out every detail of how the shows’ continuity works.
