Pink declined the chance to headline the 2019 Super Bowl LIII halftime show because she objected to the NFL’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick and believed halftime performers faced intense public criticism. “I’d probably take a knee and get carried out,” she said, describing what she thought would happen if she protested at the event.
Why Pink declined the halftime show
In a 2019 interview with Billboard, as quoted by Good Morning America, Pink said, “Everybody that does it gets so persecuted.” She connected her reluctance to the backlash performers could face and to the NFL’s handling of Colin Kaepernick after his protests.
Her remark about taking a knee was hypothetical: she was not saying that she had performed at the 2019 halftime show, taken a knee there, or been removed. It conveyed her expectation that a protest during the event would bring consequences.
Which Super Bowl opportunity she turned down
The widely reported opportunity was to headline the Super Bowl LIII halftime show in Atlanta in 2019. Entertainment Tonight reported that Pink received an offer after singing the national anthem before Super Bowl LII in 2018. Her earlier national anthem performance and the later halftime offer were separate appearances.

What she said later
On May 20, 2021, Pink revisited the decision in a segment on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. The Bravo segment page describes her explaining why she turned down the 2019 Atlanta show and whom she wanted to perform. The page’s text does not identify that person, so it does not establish whom Pink preferred.

Pink’s reported decision concerns the 2019 halftime offer; it should not be read as evidence that she has recently declined another Super Bowl invitation. The NFL announced Bad Bunny as the Apple Music Super Bowl LX halftime performer for February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. That later announcement provides event context, not an explanation of Pink’s earlier decision. NFL announcement.
