Her explanation: “I just think if you want to go to space, you’re a little too full of yourself.” It is her personal dating filter, not a claim that people interested in space share a particular personality trait.
What did Olivia Rodrigo say?
In a Netflix promotional interview associated with the GUTS World Tour concert film, Rodrigo described a question she asks men on first dates. Capital FM reported her saying: “The biggest red flag, okay, this is a very oddly specific question that I ask guys on first dates…I always ask them if they would want to go to space.”
She continued: “And if they say yes, I don’t date them… I just think if you want to go to space, you’re a little too full of yourself.” Futurism also reported the question and the explanation. The quotations here are reproduced as those outlets reported them; an original transcript was not independently verified. (Capital FM; Futurism)
Why does she treat wanting to go to space as a red flag?
In the quoted passage, Rodrigo gives one reason: she thinks wanting to go to space can suggest that someone is “a little too full of yourself.” She presents the answer as a personal impression and a way of screening dates, rather than explaining it as a broader judgment about space exploration.

Some coverage and online reactions have read the remark as a swipe at billionaire-led commercial space travel or particular public figures. That interpretation is not an intent Rodrigo explicitly states in the quoted passage. The Independent’s November 9, 2024 article is commentary on the remark, not additional confirmation of her motive. (The Independent)
When and where did she make the comment?
Capital FM published its report on November 4, 2024, and updated it November 5. It placed the remark in a Netflix promotional interview for Rodrigo’s GUTS World Tour concert film. Futurism reported on November 6, and The Independent published its commentary on November 9. These are accounts of a 2024 promotional interview, not evidence of a new statement. The original Netflix post or interview page and the recording date have not been verified.
