One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchIf OBS is counting network dropped frames while streaming to YouTube, the connection between your computer and YouTube’s ingest server is unstable or cannot sustain the bitrate you selected. Other people or devices uploading on a shared ACT Fibernet connection could be using the available headroom, but the symptom alone does not establish that ACT is at fault. First check which OBS counter is rising; then compare a lower-bitrate stream with household uploads paused and test over Ethernet.
What network dropped frames mean in OBS
OBS distinguishes network dropped frames from rendering lag and encoding overload. Network drops point to the connection to the remote ingest server, whereas the other counters indicate that OBS cannot render or encode frames fast enough. Confirm the specific counter in OBS Statistics before changing settings: a slower encoder will not fix a network-path problem.
The OBS Project’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide, dated September 30, 2024, describes dropped frames as meaning “your connection to remote server isn’t stable or you can’t keep up with your set bitrate.” That identifies the class of problem, not which part of the route caused it. The evidence here does not establish an ACT outage, a plan limitation, or a faulty route to YouTube.
How to diagnose a shared ACT connection
1. Record a useful baseline
Before changing several settings at once, note the time, OBS output resolution and frame rate, video bitrate, encoder and connection type (Wi-Fi or Ethernet). Record whether anyone else is uploading, the OBS log, and any YouTube stream-health messages. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and testing a stream before broadcast with representative audio and motion. A speed test is one observation, not proof that upload capacity remains stable throughout a stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Compare with household uploads paused
Repeat a comparable test when other upload-heavy activity is paused, then when the household is using the connection normally. If the stream only drops during competing uploads, that is evidence that shared upload activity may be consuming headroom; it does not by itself identify a fault in ACT’s service. Keep the time and settings consistent enough to make the comparison meaningful.
3. Reduce bitrate to create headroom
OBS gives approximately 75% of total upload speed as a starting-point rule of thumb for stream bitrate. It is guidance, not a guarantee: upload can vary, and other traffic still needs capacity. If measured upload fluctuates or the stream drops, reduce bitrate further and test again. A lower bitrate can improve reliability at the cost of image detail; if needed, reduce resolution or frame rate as well.

YouTube’s encoder recommendations depend on codec, resolution and frame rate. The figures below are recommended encoder bitrates—not minimum ACT plan speeds and not guarantees of a stable connection. YouTube’s accessible settings page did not expose a publication date; figures were accessed October 3, 2026.
| Output | H.264 recommendation | AV1/H.265 recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p30 | 14 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
| 720p30 or 720p60 | 8 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 480p30 | 4 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube specifies CBR and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Match the recommendation to the codec and output you actually use; do not choose a bitrate simply because a speed test briefly reached that number. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.

4. Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet
Run the same test over wired Ethernet if possible. OBS recommends a wired connection because Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. If Ethernet improves the result, investigate Wi-Fi signal, interference, distance and router placement. If drops continue over Ethernet, the cause may be farther along the connection path. A Cat 6 Ethernet cable is useful only if you need one to make this wired comparison; it is not a guaranteed fix.
5. Check whether the problem is specific to YouTube
Review YouTube’s stream-health messages and, where practical, compare with another streaming destination. A difference can help identify a service-specific path issue, but it cannot by itself prove whether YouTube, ACT or another part of the route is responsible.

6. Escalate with timestamps and logs
If network drops persist at a lower bitrate over Ethernet, gather the time-stamped OBS logs, settings, upload-test results, YouTube stream-health messages and notes on household activity. Give ACT those details and ask it to investigate the service at the affected times. OBS notes that an ISP may be able to address unexpected congestion or changes along the connection route; without your location and service-specific evidence, no particular ACT condition can be inferred.
