Normani canceled her planned performance at the June 30, 2024 BET Awards after injuring herself in an accident during rehearsals. She said a doctor advised her not to perform because doing so could delay her healing.
Why did Normani cancel her BET Awards performance?
Normani announced the cancellation on Instagram Stories on June 30, shortly before the ceremony was due to begin. In a statement reproduced by NME, she said: “I wanted to get on here and give you guys and update letting you know that while in rehearsals for BET I had a really bad accident and injured myself.”

She added: “I desperately wanted to give you my best on that stage but performing would delay my healing.” Normani attributed the decision to medical advice; the statement was hers, not a comment from BET or a named doctor. Us Weekly and CNN, republished by WRAL, also reported the cancellation and rehearsal accident.
What is known about the injury?
NME described an image Normani shared showing her on crutches, wearing a walking boot, with her knee bandaged. Those details describe what was visible in the image; they do not establish a diagnosis.

The contemporary reports do not specify the exact injury, how the accident happened, or its severity. They also do not establish treatment details or a recovery timeline, so it would be inaccurate to infer a particular injury or predict when she would return to performing.
