Grosse Pointe Garden Society is not currently on the brink of cancellation: NBC cancelled it after one season on June 27, 2025, and reporting said it would not continue on Peacock. The strongest argument for a second season is that its creators saw a plausible streaming future for the series—and had discussed one—but that possibility never became a renewal plan.
What happened to Grosse Pointe Garden Society?
NBC cancelled the mystery drama after its 13-episode first season. The finale aired May 16, 2025, according to TV Series Finale and TV Insider. The series follows four suburban Michigan garden-club members—Birdie, Catherine, Brett and Alice—whose lives become caught up in scandal and a murder secret.
TVLine reported that the show began on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET and moved to Fridays at 8 p.m. ET after its first three episodes. TVLine’s cancellation report announced NBC’s decision on June 27, 2025.
The one serious case for a second season: the show had a possible streaming life
Before the cancellation, co-creators Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs publicly floated the idea that the series might work better as a streaming show. Krebs told CinemaBlend, “There is a world where a show like this would live much better on Peacock than it would on NBC,” adding that they had “had discussions like that.”

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Bans also expressed hope that the network might find a way to bring the show back, perhaps unconventionally, but she was explicit about the uncertainty: “We have nothing concrete though.” Those comments are evidence that the creators saw potential in a different format or home, not evidence that NBC had approved a second season.
That distinction is central to the renewal argument. A character-driven mystery with a murder secret and a garden-club setting could be easier to discover and watch on demand than in a fixed broadcast slot. But that is a reason to consider a streaming continuation—not proof that the show had grown an audience or that Peacock had committed to carrying it.

Why the streaming argument did not persuade NBC
TV Insider reported, citing Deadline, that NBC considered whether the series could grow its audience on Peacock and decided against continuing it there. TV Insider also reported that all 13 episodes were available on Peacock at the time of its June 27, 2025 article. That historical availability does not establish whether the show is still in the service’s catalog; check Peacock’s current listings if you want to watch.
The reported audience numbers also point to a difficult case for renewal, though the outlets used different measures and should not be treated as if they were a single definitive average:

| Outlet | Reported season average | What the figure measures |
|---|---|---|
| TVLine | 1.77 million viewers | Total viewers with delayed playback; TVLine said this ranked last among the 11 NBC dramas it counted that season. |
| TV Series Finale | 1.23 million viewers; 0.12 adults 18–49 rating | Viewers including DVR playback through 3:00 a.m.; the rating is the outlet’s reported adults 18–49 average. |
TV Series Finale also described the show as NBC’s lowest-rated scripted series that season. It reported that the broadcast ratings stayed about the same after the move to Fridays while Peacock viewing increased, but did not provide a Peacock audience figure. That leaves no quantified streaming-growth case in the cited reporting to counter the weak broadcast numbers.
What the ratings do—and do not—say about a renewal
The figures are historical outlet-reported measurements with different playback windows. TVLine’s 1.77 million figure includes delayed viewing, while TV Series Finale’s 1.23 million figure specifies DVR playback through 3:00 a.m. They should be presented separately rather than averaged or treated as directly comparable.

NBCUniversal later said NBC averaged 5.83 million primetime viewers through May 17, 2026, approximately 14 percent above the 2024–25 season. That network-wide figure, reported in its May 21, 2026 announcement, describes a different season and cannot establish whether Grosse Pointe Garden Society merited renewal.

The available reporting establishes a cancellation, not a pending renewal. NBC declined both another broadcast season and a reported Peacock continuation. The creators’ pre-cancellation comments show that they hoped the series might find another form, but no Season 2 proposal or greenlight is established in the cited coverage.

The best argument for renewal is therefore a counterfactual one: the show had a distinctive premise and creators willing to imagine a streaming future for it. The strongest evidence against expecting that future is that NBC reportedly assessed the Peacock option and passed, while the reported broadcast audience was low by the network’s standards.
