UmaSofia Srivastava resigned as Miss Teen USA 2023 on May 8, 2024, two days after Miss USA 2023 Noelia Voigt announced her own resignation. Srivastava said her personal values no longer fully aligned with the organization’s direction. Her public statement did not give a more specific reason.
What happened, and when?
Srivastava and Voigt were crowned in September 2023. Voigt announced on May 6, 2024, that she was stepping down as Miss USA 2023. On May 8, Srivastava announced she was resigning as Miss Teen USA 2023.
The Associated Press reported that the two departures left the organization without its top two titleholders for the first time in 72 years. AP described Srivastava as 17 at the time of its May 10 report.
Why did UmaSofia Srivastava resign?
Her stated reason was a mismatch between her personal values and the organization’s direction. ABC News quoted her announcement: “After careful consideration, I’ve decided to resign as I find that my personal values no longer fully align with the direction of the organization.”

TIME reported that Srivastava said she had grappled with the decision “for months.” The sources reporting her announcement do not establish a more specific motive. Coverage also discussed controversies and allegations involving the Miss USA organization, but it does not demonstrate that those matters caused her decision. They should not be treated as her stated explanation.
What did she plan to do next?
At the time of her announcement, Srivastava said she planned to continue advocating for education and acceptance. She also described plans connected with her multilingual children’s book The White Jaguar and the Bridge of Books Foundation and The Lotus Petal Foundation, as well as finishing 11th grade and beginning the college application process. These were plans she shared then; they do not establish what happened afterward.
