Why did some viewers object to the costume?
They wanted to see the performer’s face
One post quoted by POPline argued that fans had paid to see Martinez and her face, not a masked-singer-style character. The objection centers on artist visibility: facial expressions can be a major part of a concertgoer’s connection to a performer, and a full-face prosthetic shifts attention away from them.
This was one individual’s view, not evidence that attendees broadly shared it. They preferred a more conventional concert image
For critics, a concert can be understood as a chance to see the familiar performer directly, rather than primarily seeing a character. That expectation is in tension with a theatrical presentation in which the performer’s face is intentionally obscured.
Why did other fans praise it?
They saw the look as part of the album’s visual world
Supportive commenters treated the creature prosthetic as an extension of PORTALS, rather than as a distraction from Martinez. POPline reproduced one fan’s praise: “ela fazendo o show com a fantasia de Portals, ICÔNICA” (“her performing in the Portals costume, ICONIC”). For those viewers, the visual commitment helped make the performance feel distinctive and connected to the album’s story.

They welcomed a theatrical identity
The disagreement also reflects different ideas about what a live pop show should emphasize. A star-centered approach puts the performer’s face and recognizable presence first; a more theatrical approach lets a character or album concept become the visual focus. Neither response establishes a single correct way to experience the show.

The prosthetic in this debate belongs to the 2023 PORTALS era. Later 2026 material describes Martinez’s HADES: THE SACRIFICE era and a live presentation shaped by music, film, and storytelling, but does not establish that she continues to wear the 2023 prosthetic. Live Nation’s Prague event page lists a concert at O2 arena for September 24, 2026, while a July 2026 tour review and a July 2026 SPIN feature concern the later era. They should not be read as confirmation of the older costume’s continued use.
