No one has publicly explained, in their own words, why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sometimes appear at events separately. The most specific explanation in circulation comes from anonymous sources quoted in a Grazia report, which relayed reporting from People. According to those sources, Harry is focused on patronage work while Meghan is focused on her entrepreneurial projects. That is a description of how the reporting frames their public focus. It is not a statement from either of them, and it is not evidence of trouble in their relationship.
The explanation on record: a “twin-track approach”
Grazia’s account describes the couple’s public lives as moving along two separate paths. The sentences it reproduces, all attributed to anonymous sources, are:

- “It’s clear that a twin-track approach is evolving,” an insider told People.
- “The Duke and Duchess have now hit their stride as individuals – not just as a couple,” another source added.
- “The Duke appears focused on his patronage work, and the Duchess focused on her entrepreneurial track,” the source continued.
The core claim is narrow. Harry’s public work is organised around patronage, meaning the charitable and public-service roles he carries out, and Meghan’s is organised around her own business ventures. Nothing in the reporting says that one of them has stepped back from the other or that the arrangement is a break.
Who is speaking, and how much weight the quotes can bear
The sources are not named, and no role is given for them. Treat the three sentences above as anonymous-source reporting, not as a verified account from people with direct knowledge of the couple’s plans. The reporting does not show the couple confirming the explanation.

Grazia also quotes Meghan telling The New York Times: “Investing in [these businesses] has helped me line up for this chapter where I’m investing in myself.” That line is relayed secondhand through Grazia. Consult the original interview before quoting it directly, because the bracketed wording and the surrounding context both matter. Even as a direct quote, it describes her business investments. It does not explain Harry’s schedule.
When the reporting dates from
The Grazia piece describes a period after the couple’s August 2024 visit to Colombia and refers to a November 2024 event that Meghan attended. Its explanation is therefore tied to that stretch of 2024. It should not be read as a description of how the couple organise their work today, because the reporting does not say whether the arrangement has lasted, expanded or changed.
What 2026 coverage shows
Later entertainment coverage gives a more recent picture, but a thin one. Archive listings from Just Jared record a solo appearance by Harry at a July 2026 event, and a joint appearance by the couple at a Canadian event in August 2026. These listings are examples. They are not a complete count of appearances, and they do not explain why each event was attended the way it was.
| Evidence | Source as reported | Date reference | What it can support |
|---|---|---|---|
| “Twin-track” division of focus | Anonymous sources, relayed by Grazia | Period after August 2024 Colombia visit; November 2024 event mentioned | The reporting’s framing of patronage versus entrepreneurship, as described by unnamed sources |
| Meghan’s line on investing in herself | New York Times interview, relayed secondhand by Grazia | Not stated in the Grazia piece | Her description of business investments; the original wording should be checked |
| Separate and joint appearances | Just Jared archive listings | July 2026 (Harry, solo); August 2026 (couple, Canadian event) | That these specific appearances occurred as listed; not a pattern or total |
What is not established
- That the couple have confirmed the twin-track explanation.
- That solo appearances signal a relationship problem. The reporting does not claim this.
- That the arrangement is permanent. The 2024 reporting is historical, and the 2026 listings do not establish a trend.
- That every separate appearance has the same cause. Some may reflect a particular patronage commitment or business event, and others may have no stated reason at all.
How to read the next solo appearance
When a new report says Harry or Meghan attended something alone, check three things before drawing a conclusion:
Rank #3
- Whether the coverage names the event’s purpose, such as a charity, a patronage role or a business launch. A stated purpose is more useful than a general claim about their “focus”.
- Whether the explanation is attributed to a named person or to anonymous sources. Anonymous reporting can describe a pattern, but it cannot confirm intent.
- Whether the couple appeared together at other events in the same period. Entertainment listings tend to record the solo outings and skip the joint ones, so a single appearance says little on its own.
On the current evidence, the most defensible answer is modest: the reporting describes a division of public focus between Harry’s patronage work and Meghan’s business activity, the explanation comes from unnamed sources and is dated to 2024, and the 2026 listings confirm that both separate and joint appearances happen without explaining them.
