Mary Cosby has said that her husband, Robert Cosby Sr., does not want to take part in The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City and wants his life left undisturbed. The reasons she has given have changed over time. In October 2024 she blamed his distrust of the show’s producers and a grudge against them. In a January 2025 reunion answer and an October 2025 interview, she described his choice as a matter of contentment and privacy, and said he sees the show as one made for women.
Every motive below comes from Mary’s account. The reporting cited here does not include a direct statement from Robert Sr. explaining his absence, and it does not show that production formally excluded him.
What Mary has said, and when
Mary has addressed the question on three occasions. Each account is reported secondhand by the outlet named, and each should be read with its date, because the explanations are not identical.
| Date | Where it was said | Reason Mary gave | Key wording as reported |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oct. 9–10, 2024 | Watch What Happens Live, reported by Us Weekly (Oct. 10, 2024) | Distrust of the producers and a grudge; she set Andy Cohen apart from the producers, saying Robert loved Andy | “But once he gets over his grudge, he’ll be better and he’ll probably show his face.” |
| Jan. 22, 2025 | Season 5 reunion, reported by Bravo (Jan. 22, 2025) | He is content with his life and wants nothing interrupted | “He does not want to be a part of this.” “He’s happy, and he’s good with his life, and he wants nothing interrupted.” |
| Oct. 28–30, 2025 | People interview, reported by Bravo (Oct. 30, 2025) | He sees the show as made for women, not for him | “He won’t come on the show for anything.” “No, that’s for women. That’s not for me.” |
October 2024: a grudge against the producers
The earliest account is the most specific about cause. Mary said Robert Sr. was unhappy with the RHOSLC producers and did not trust them. She was careful to separate Andy Cohen from that distrust. Her comment also left room for change, suggesting that once he got over the grudge he might eventually appear. This is the only one of her three accounts that names producers as the source of his reluctance.

January 2025: he wants nothing interrupted
When Andy Cohen asked at the Season 5 reunion why Robert Sr. had not appeared that season, Mary’s answer moved away from the producers. She said he did not want to be part of the show, that he was happy and content with his life, and that he wanted nothing interrupted. The reunion answer is the most direct statement of her position on his privacy.
October 2025: a show for women
In her October 2025 People interview, Mary said Robert Sr. would not appear on the show for anything. She quoted his view of the program: “No, that’s for women. That’s not for me.” This is the first account in which the reason is about the show’s format and audience, rather than about people behind it.

Why the explanations differ
The three accounts do not contradict each other so much as they describe different layers of the same decision. The 2024 explanation concerns relationships with the producers. The 2025 explanations concern his wish for a private life and his view of what the show is. Readers should not assume that one replaced the others, because Mary’s comments do not say so. The safest reading is that she has offered more than one reason over time, all attributed to her husband, and that none of them is confirmed by him in the reporting cited.
What is established about his appearances
Bravo reports that Robert Sr. appeared briefly in Season 1 and did not appear in Season 5 or Season 6. Those are the only season-specific points the cited reporting establishes. The same Bravo profile, published in September 2024 at this Bravo profile, covers his background and the early relationship, and is the source for the Season 1 detail. The reporting does not establish his pattern in Seasons 2 through 4, so the Season 5 and Season 6 absences should not be read as a complete record of his time on the show.

Context that does not explain his absence
Bravo’s January 2025 report says Robert Sr. was living with the couple’s son, Robert Jr., in the family’s Las Vegas home during the period discussed. Mary said the move helped keep their son away from Salt Lake City triggers during his recovery. This is a description of where the family was living and why, not an explanation of why Robert Sr. did not film. Nothing in the cited reporting connects the son’s recovery to his father’s decision.

The couple’s relationship has an unusual history that the show addressed early. According to the couple’s own account, Robert Sr. had been married to Mary’s grandmother, Rosemary. Mary described their eventual marriage as “kind of” arranged and tied to her grandmother’s request. Robert Sr.’s account, as recounted in Bravo’s profile, is that Rosemary asked him to marry one of her granddaughters if anything happened to her. These are the couple’s statements, and the reporting does not offer independent confirmation of the arrangement or of any motive behind it. The background is relevant only as context for the family, not as a reason he has stayed off the show.
