Marvel’s quoted statement confirmed the investigation and described its findings as egregious, but did not explain what those findings were. The phrase is Marvel’s characterization; it is not a public account of the underlying evidence.
What DeMayo said about his Season 2 credits
In August 2024, DeMayo claimed that Marvel told him it would remove his writing credits for Season 2 because of Pride-related fan art he had posted. The TheWrap reported his claim. It is DeMayo’s account of the credits dispute; the cited coverage does not independently establish that fan art was Marvel’s reason for firing him.

What reporting said about the investigation
The Los Angeles Times cited an unnamed source familiar with the termination who said the internal investigation involved alleged sexual misconduct. The report does not identify that source, and the description is not part of Marvel’s quoted public statement. It should be understood as anonymous-source reporting about allegations, not as an independently established account of the investigation’s findings.
How DeMayo responded
Vanity Fair’s retrospective coverage reported that DeMayo denied allegations of egregious misconduct in a video statement on September 4, 2024. He said, “These allegations of egregious misconduct are false,” and characterized Marvel’s actions as a smear campaign. These are DeMayo’s statements, not a resolution of the dispute.
