Mark Ruffalo called Joe Rogan’s criticism of ICE workplace raids “a little late” because Rogan had previously supported Donald Trump, while Ruffalo argued that the enforcement approach was foreseeable and connected to Project 2025. The exchange followed Rogan’s July 2, 2025 conversation with Replit CEO Amjad Masad and drew news coverage on July 7.
What Joe Rogan said about ICE raids
During a July 2, 2025 episode of The Joe Rogan Experience featuring Replit CEO Amjad Masad, Rogan objected to immigration raids at workplaces where migrant workers were present. As quoted by TheWrap, he said: “One is the targeting of migrant workers — not cartel members, not gang members, not drug dealers — just construction workers, showing up in construction sites, raiding them. Gardeners. Like, really?” TheWrap’s July 7 report attributes the words to the episode.
His remarks distinguished workers such as construction workers and gardeners from people involved in cartels, gangs, or drug dealing. The immediate subject was the targeting of workers at job sites, rather than a general argument about every part of immigration enforcement.
Why Mark Ruffalo criticized him
Ruffalo responded to Rogan on Threads, bringing Project 2025 and Rogan’s earlier support for Trump into the criticism. TheWrap reproduced his post as: “Dear @joerogan. It’s a little late now to pretend like Project 2025 didn’t exist and wasn’t the play book all along,” followed by, “You are either not that smart or not that dumb. It’s hard to tell at this point.” The Boston Globe also reproduced the remarks.

Ruffalo’s charge was about timing and political responsibility: if Rogan had supported Trump, Ruffalo argued, he could not credibly act surprised by the direction of immigration enforcement. Fox News and TheWrap both described Rogan’s prior endorsement as context for Ruffalo’s response. Fox News reported on the exchange on July 7, 2025.

The exchange had two distinct parts: Rogan objected to raids affecting workers, while Ruffalo challenged the timing of that objection and tied it to Rogan’s earlier political support.
