Marcus and Ginny broke up at the end of Ginny & Georgia Season 2, before Season 3 begins. Marcus’s depression had worsened, and he felt unable to be a supportive partner; the breakup is not presented as Ginny’s fault or as proof that he stopped loving her. Season 3 follows their friendship after the split as Marcus’s struggles deepen, and it ends without reuniting them.
Why Marcus ended the relationship
In the Season 2 breakup scene, Marcus tells Ginny, “I don’t have room for anyone else’s pain right now.” Netflix Tudum’s account of the scene explains that the two had been trying to date while dealing with their own trauma, but Marcus’s depression made the relationship feel like more than he could manage.
Actor Felix Mallard describes Marcus as letting Ginny go because he loves her and does not want her to endure the pain he is experiencing. The clearest reading is that Marcus believes he cannot show up for her as a partner while he is unwell—not that his feelings have disappeared. Netflix Tudum’s Season 2 breakup explanation includes Mallard’s comments.
What their relationship is like in Season 3
They remain friends, but the feelings do not make things simple
Season 3 begins with Marcus and Ginny no longer dating but still friends. Their care for each other remains, yet Marcus struggles to be present for Ginny consistently. Mallard says Marcus “doesn’t believe in himself enough to show up for Ginny in the way that she needs.” Meanwhile, Ginny leans on her friends and poetry and begins developing greater independence. Netflix Tudum’s discussion of Season 3 and mental health covers the actors’ perspectives.

Marcus’s depression and drinking worsen
As the season progresses, Marcus uses alcohol to cope with his depression. His twin sister Max eventually intervenes. In a June 7, 2025 interview with TheWrap, Mallard described the drinking as a coping mechanism that erodes Marcus’s support systems; creator Sarah Lampert said Ginny does not understand the extent of it until the finale, when she sees how unwell he is.
The season ends with Marcus and his mother, Ellen, driving to rehab. Mallard hopes structure will help Marcus, while noting that returning to everyday life and relationships will be a challenge. These are comments about a fictional character’s story, not clinical conclusions about real people. TheWrap’s interview with Antonia Gentry and Felix Mallard discusses the finale and the couple’s future.

Do Marcus and Ginny get back together by the end of Season 3?
No. The finale does not show them reuniting. Ginny sends Marcus off with a poem that conveys enduring care, but Gentry and Mallard both describe a future relationship as dependent on growth and better mental health. Gentry says, “I want them to be in their best mental states before they come together as a couple.” The ending leaves open what may happen later; it does not promise a reunion. Netflix Tudum’s Season 3 ending explanation also places the finale in the context of the characters’ difficult season.
